Well at least Treks are not engineered to be heavier than anything else available. So while Treks may be overexposed and too mainstream, at least they are not purposely, ludicrously heavy. Paying extra for more weight is kinda silly.

You really mean engineered to be totally awesome, of course.

I love cycling, but have no allegiance to any frame builder.
Fit is most important to me.

I'm so very surprised that trek owners out there seem to be so touchy feely about what anonymous internet people might say about a bike that isn't theirs.
Why do I ride a trek? Is it because there are limited actual bike shops in my town and I picked the one with what I consider the best people? Is it because I like their looks? Is it because they had a 2012 leftover for $600 off MSRP? Is it because I want to get fit and exercise?
Or is it simply to annoy the members of BF with another guy that rides a trek and has no problem with anyone slighting the bike?
All I can say is that I've never taken offense to anyone's thoughts on bikes as they are that persons opinion and I have my own.
I'm also over 40 and have been divorced. If you've made it through divorce and still are alive to ride.. then who gives a fawk about what anyone else thinks about your bike.
Did I mention I ride a trek?
take the internet for what it is. A place where everyone gets a voice unless you use the "ignore" function.

My daughter demoed a high-end trek at a recent event and now she wants to buy one, only she's having a hard time justifying the price. If she had an extra $3500 lying around, she'd pull the trigger today. It was perfect for her - great fit, awesome road feel, excellent response, great components, a huge improvement over her current ride. I wish I could just buy it for her. Problem is, it won't accomodate her rack and trunk which she uses for commuting...

There are two types of bike customers:
1. Those that buy on and for performance.
2. Those that buy due to looks.
There is little overlap amongst these groups.
And on this forum, riders who do not own what you are discussing automatically say whateveer they don't own sucks. It defends their purchase.
Been that way for years. It's one of the things that defines this place.
And if you are riding pro stuff, none of it sucks. As for me, I ride what I ride due to relationships.
Enjoy...

Bikes: are better than yours.
Actually, you forgot those that buy because they are anti <fill in the blank>. I bought a Look 695 because I'm anti what everyone else is riding. And I wanted a handmade frame. There are only a handful of carbon bike builders that still offer a handmade frame--Look, Colnago, and Time are top that come to my mind.

Oh good lord.
In this epistle this gem was nested. I am still laughing.
Nobody's aluminum bike touches the quality of the tubing on a CAAD10 which is why Cannondale offers a $3,500 bike on that frame. You won't find many $3,500 aluminum bikes for sale these days.
Wow.

An "epistle" , thanks for the complement.
It seems Cannondale has upped the ante with it's CAAD 10 Black Inc. A $4100 aluminum road bike- now I'm LMAO
I'll just stick to my 1985 C'Dale ST500 and my Scalpel 29er.

I'm saying it's representative of Trek OWNERS.
That poor bike didn't tart itself up like that.

Karmically, since I've joined in on the poo-flinging, albeit tongue-in-cheekily, karmically when it's time to upgrade and I ride a bunch of stuff, I'm now just DOOMED to fall for a Trek.
....but that's ok. I like being on either side of a shindig like this.
