Ergo mode (suicide)

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ergo mode (suicide)

Due to my work I spend lots of time on trainers. Normally I ride for 1.5hr and at the end of the ride my average power would be 200-220W. Sometimes better sometimes worse, depending I guess on position of stars. So today I was testing KICKR and decided to try ERGO mode at constant power throughout whole ride for the first time in my life. That little voice inside my head told me that it might not be such a great idea but I went for it anyways. I set target power at 170W just in case.

Now I am sitting and swearing. I've never ever felt my legs being on fire so much. Literally burning and this is at much lower average power then I would usually ride.

I suspect it is somehow related to inertia. But KICKR is actually not bad in this department since it has decent flywheel and none of that Roller/Tire friction losses that kills inertia.

Any idea why?
