Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Initial impressions:

As advertised, it is a very comfy bike for my commute, 16 miles one way and never sore, etc.
Does a great job of taming our crappy roads.
Super light after my C-Dale cx disc from 10 years ago.
Murdered out paint with nice red stripes is good combo.

The bad:
2013 Ultegra group shifts poorly compared to my 10 year old Ultegra.
Seems to be a common complaint. New 6800 Ultegra is supposed to be fine.

I hope yours has the 6800. Happy riding. Enjoy.
Yeah, the 11-speeds plus improved ergo's and performance were worth some coin to me... my LBS has a '13 Comp that I rode a couple times that I could get a deal on.... but I want 6800 Ultegra and SL4 10r frame and DAMN IT JIM! I want my cobble-gobbler.

I think the suspension post is a great idea.

I had an old RockShox road suspension post on th C-dale and loved it. Was going to migrate it to the new, but stock post and saddle are great. Speaks well of the Roubaix frame compliance. Our roads are REALLY bad pavement. I may get a gobbler at some point in the future.

What is the deal with the new seat post design? Aero? Suspension?

I've had an SL4 since Feb and it is an astounding bike. You will be quite happy, I am sure.

Very nice and I like the silver way more than the dull, ever present, boring black permeating the market. Were I to be in the market for a new bike this would be it.

Next up, is I need to pimp my ride. I can't see moving the 80's MTB bottle cages, swiped from my old Trek MTB and currently on my Sequoia, to the Roubaix for instance. Lord help me, I better go carbon there. And pedals! The Look KEO's on my Seq were bought because they were the cheapest the store had and were on sale on top of that. I'm putting those on a $3800 Roubaix?! I think not. And I want a small, light, yet daylight-visible (annoyingly so!) red blinker for the rear. I guess I'll slum the stock tires until at least the rear one is worn out. But then, am I putting a $24 tire on there like I recently put on my Seq?! No, no, no.

I see where this is going.

Yeah, suspension. It's got like 18mm of vertical compliance etc. Goofy-looking and the pavement here is generally not so bad... but I'm game to give it a run!

Fun problems no? Pedals, I'd recommend Speedplays. I like my Ultegra Carbons but I do regret not having customizable spindle lengths which is good for a perfect fit.

Carbon bottle cages get super dirty and nasty. The only reason I have mine is because they were "free". Go with the most minimalist / efficient design. The less you can see them the better, yet you want something that wont have you dropping your bottles.

Dont forget to get matching clothes! Assos / rapha is brand of choice but you might be able to get away with Giordanna... only if it is FormaRed though!

How bout we both get the exact same bike, & claim it to be alloy/steel!
The paint does a great job of masking the CF.
We'd be going so fast no one would know it was a Roubaix.

This is the 41... Where the line between fantasy, & reality is basically non existent. We all average 400W, & climb like goats.
