Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Today was the first time back on the bike since my surgery in late September. Only 45 minutes of tempo on the trainer, but it was still good to get some saddle time. I probably won't be cleared for outdoor riding until 2014. It's going to be a long rest of the year.

Excellent.

I dare you to start a thread about this including the word "arrogant" in the title.

Good to hear. Now is the time to ride the trainer, at least. Riding that thing in July sucked.

I was fortunate that I was able to pick the time to get the surgery. It did mean that I had to HTFU on any ride over an hour this year, though.

I think Don and I were the oldest guys on the Nyack Ride today. I'm 56 (I turn 56 this weekend) and he's 55. We've both been doing that stupid ride since about 1990.

All this proves is once you are a road cycling imbecile, it's pretty much permanent.

Just checked my Dr and PT clinical notes, I might be able to ride outside for Christmas. The reason is that my surgeon doesn't want me to lean on my repaired shoulder until it heals and my arm strength improves.

this reminds me that my dr. gave me exercises for my shoulder in lieu of sending me to pt, because of where it's still pinchy she's concerned about future rotator cuff issues. i have not started doing them.

mr. ts' answer was to have me start lifting weights.

Yeah, but on the other hand, Drew @ Piermont appears to have de-creak-i-fied the front end of the foil. Carbon prep between the stem, bars, fork tube, Ti prep on the bolts. This is what sucks about racing bikes, too many friggin potential creaky-noise sources.

I am fairly certain that winter will last the same 3 months that it always does, +- the normal one day. The Winter Solstice and Vernal Equinox are amazingly consistent.

Like how there's always 6 weeks of winter left whether the groundhog sees his shadow or not?

Kind of exactly like that.

As a youth, I felt bad for the groundhog, thinking that that must be a great deal of pressure, with the weight of winter and all of those spectators. Then I found out it was a con game, perpetrated by large toothed vermin the world over. Oh, they will get theirs. Just wait.

This reminds me that we must get a snow blower for the impending winter - why didn't I listen to my dad's *****ing, when I was a kid, about having to shovel more when you live on a corner?

Speaking of which, I've been trying to evict a groundhog from my property recently. I have a baited trap out but he avoids it. I need to get rid of him before he hunkers down for the winter and has chirren in the spring.
