Performance Ultras
I used to wear these bibs years ago then got the Sugoi's. But now hearing that the sizing on the Sugoi's has changed and as I buy them online, not sure I want to chance that.
The old Ultras used to sport a mostly sponge pad. What the current product like? I'd probably use the Ultra's for rides under 30 miles, I guess.
Thanks...

i've got a 2012 set of ultra ii bibs that have a green thick sort of sponge pad.
it's much better than the club shorts one, but for some reason I feel not as soft/smooth as the elite bibs one.
they're a decent set of bibs for relatively little money. they were my go-to for trainer and longer rides.
i got a set of cannondale domestique ones from nashbar that are quickly becoming my go-to bibs for trainer time.

I'm finding it's almost harder to admit to needing smaller sizes than it was when I started needing larger sizes. More than two years of working on being less too fat for this sport and my brain won't let me enjoy it!

Err, undergrew them ??? Ha, I could really use a size large as opposed to the XXLs hanging in the closet.
Seriously though, I thought they were great when I was wearing them. Plain, simple, comfortable, quality black bibs. Can't go wrong.

Bought & rode in my first pair of Ultra bibs just this week. Great for the price ($80ish after sale/coupon), if a little too thick and cushy in the chamois. After finding a hole in the leg of my nice Castelli bib and, one starting to rub in on my newest Gore bib... I think I'm gonna load up on 2 or 3 more pairs of the Performance ones and use them exclusively for my daily <30mi. rides.

The only problem with them is chamois durability. The material will delaminate, and it tends to wear out along the edge of the padding under the taint.
Performance is aware of the problem, and they stand behind their warranty replacement policy, but it is a problem. Hopefully they will solve the chamois issue on next year's model.

Maybe I should wear mine around the house and take advantage of their warranty replacement...wonder if they'd let you do a smaller size?

I really like the ones from 4 or 5 years ago (with the grey pad), the ones from 1-3 years ago (green pad) not so much, the pad is too thick especially around the edges.
Anyone have a comparison with the new one (blue pad) versus the older ones??

I really like these bibs. I'm tall and thin with long legs(6'2" 163 lbs w/36.5" inseam) so find bibs that aren't too short is pretty tough. These bibs fit me well.

i forget about their warranty replacement... i should probably take the elite set I bought last fall in... one of the seams is falling apart.

I did okay with the Ultras for several years, it was just that spongey pad that I ended up hating. Eh, maybe I should do some searches on the Sugoi's this morning again. Some good pricing on EBay.

That's not really the spirit of the satisfaction guarantee, but with their own product line, I don't think they'd give you a hard time. I don't think I would do it, but I know they would accept the exchange without an issue.

About two weeks ago, I took delivery of my first pair of Ultra bibs, they were on sale. I was skeptical of their quality and comfort. I've been a big fan of Castelli's higher end stuff for years. After 6 rides in the Ultras, a total of roughly 300 miles, I rank them among the best bib shorts I've ever ridden in for comfort. The chamois pad seems pretty minimal. The material allows me to slide around a bit on my Toupe saddles, which I like as I prefer to frequently change hand and positions on the bars and try to get out of the saddle a good deal to keep my back stretched. All that's left is to see how long they last.

Yeah, I'm not going to take them back...just have no idea what I was thinking when I bought them. Wasn't planning on losing 40lbs in a year, I guess.
