Driving to work the other day, I passed a guy driving a sports car. He was not wearing a full nomex suit or helmet. What so I do?

They're campers with all their stuff on their bikes. Only one guy wearing a helmet plus long pants. Everyone else shorts. Guy on the right has the American flag beneath another flag. What would be even more interesting is to get a current picture of them as they look now.

Just like any other sporting activity, you will encounter some people who take themselves way to seriously. I usually greet other riders I pass (no matter how they are dressed) with a smile and nod or at least a minimalist wave by raising the fingers of my left hand (all of them) while keeping the heel of my hand on the bar. If they don't respond I don't care but most people return the gesture. If I know the rider or they appear particularly friendly I'll venture a "hello" or "nice day" as we approach each other.

I honestly don't know how I'd react to seeing another person on a bike. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person in this county that rides.

If you take road cycling seriously, you should just wear a full kit. It's not a fashion statement, it's a measurable performance improvement.

I passed a group of hipsters yesterday on 80's road bikes but they were wearing cut off jeans, polo shirts and Sperry top siders. These 20 somethings on your rides are not keeping up with fashion.
But seriously, who cares? I ride in what is comfortable. It just so happens that as I've starting riding more and doing 20-40 miles in SoCal heat where it's still hitting 100s lately, full kit is more comfortable.

I've been out riding on my clipless pedals wearing boots, jeans, and a shirt because I was commuting, then did 5 laps around Central park all the while smoking some of the guys with their kits and 8k bikes. Does it slow me down? yea, but I didn't care for that time being.

I - and everyone else around me - used to get passed routinely on a local MUP by a guy with long dreadlocks who was always wearing nondescript cotton athletic gear and riding a beat-up knobby-tired MTB with platform pedals. If you tried to pass him when he wasn't going fast, he'd often crank it up to 25 mph and just drop your ass.
No kidding.
Of course, this MUP ran right near the local NFL team's training facility...

Although I have to admit, the thought getting passed by someone in non-cycling kit seems strange.
Because he'd have to eat me first, and I doubt I'd be worried about what he was wearing were he doing that.

I been passed. Dude was about 50 in full kit on a dual suspension MTB on the road.
I was on a early 70's charity shop 10 speed find that I just got rolling. Taking it slow and evaluating what to do with the old girl. No kit. Not ever. Even if I rode fast enough to make it non-funny, I prefer the sleeper approach to hot rodding.
Boy did he look proud of himself as he bounced his way by me. I waved.
