never go small cog

I'm old here and I know if you go small cog you could cough your lungs out of your (you're) mouth.

How can I avoid this or it normal?

I hate small cogs. I need a 13-24 9 speed

Actually as old as I am, I'd probably be better off with 14-26

If you derail on the small cog, then no spokes will be damaged! Maybe look for an outer dork disc?

The problem for me is that no one seems to make a 10sp cassette with anything like a 13 or 14 for the small cog. I don't have the problem the OP talked about but I don't really use my 12 all that often.

Shimano 6600 comes in 13-25, 14-25 and even 15-25 (apparently none of those fit on FH/WH D-A freehubs, though.)

Campy has a lot of 13s and Centaur Ultradrive with a 14.

Personally i never go small frog. I always try and use the largest frog available.

And don't get me started about triple buttered vs double buttered frame tubes.

IRD has 13 tooth starting cog cassettes. Miche and Marchisio loose cogs can be assembled almost (18 is the largest first position cog) anyway you want.
