Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Emonda is top of my list for a new bike in the Spring, can on really afford an ALR6, but might be able to afford an SL.

Never road Shimano road brakes. My previous bike had Sram Rival and the Bontrager are a improvement in feel and stopping power.

Let's see if another owner with Shimano experience can wade in with an opinion.

I've had plenty of bikes with both brakes. The new generation Shimano caliper design is really good, but I can't say that I really notice a difference between current Shimano calipers and the GOOD (new) Bontrager brakes. (The old bontrager speedstop brakes were garbage)

I'm sure the Bontrager brakes are probably a cost saving measure, but I would consider them as good as the current high end shimano calipers, so not really a downgrade in any way, and still lighter

Just an FYI.... Stabbing the brake cable into the blind anchor hole on the Bontrager Speedstops can be a real son of a gun!!

Does anyone know of a headset cover that is basically zero stack? I know the Woodman Axis ICR 3mm fits perfectly on the ALR frame but I cannot find it anywhere. The slamthatstem one OD is too large. Are there any alternatives? I am trying to go as low as possible before I end up switching the frame. Already on a -17 stem.

Thanks!

11,000 miles since January 2015. The cost per mile is now in the reasonable range and getting cheaper

My LBS has a 2016 SL5 on sale for 1900.00 bucks. Plus a $300.00 credit for the wheels I don't need. The 105 groupset is pretty sweet and I like the white paint scheme.

I always said that the most expensive bike is the one you don't ride.

When I got the Emonda, i sold my Madone and bought a MTB for $1100. I wasn't thrilled with it and then bought a CX bike. The MTB sat all season and I sold it for $700.... a $400 loss. I think I put about 200 miles on the MTB, so it's cost per mike was $2/mile. The Emonda cost me half as much and will only get cheaper as I keep racking up the miles.

I have 1000 miles on the CX and now with the colder weather, it's my primary ride.

shop looked at it, and sent a bunch of pics to trek rep, trek replied with it was within there spec limits and wouldn't replace the frame. I ended up pulling all the parts to build another bike, and now have tiagra group on the sl6 and its a trainer only bike. Trek lost a costumer from me. Hope you have better luck.
