Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

For me and it could of been just in my head but it never seemed like the rear trailed completely strait. I would start by making sure its the rear drop out, swap to another rear wheel if you have one and see if the problems still there or see if that fixes it. Next i would get the wheel checked to see if the dish is off at all, and even get them to dish it a tiny bit off to make it sit perfectly in the center. I would of rode it that way, but while the trek store had it a buddy let me borrow his norco and i liked it so much i bought one myself.

In before wtf is up with your stem/handle bars.

I bought this 2016 emonda sl6 back in august and have not ridden it a ton. The reason is because the bike is a little too aggressive than what i'm used to. I've been riding various Trek fx hybrid bikes for several years for fitness. I do not race, do not wear biking gear, just shorts/tshirt and running shoes. I am 6'1", 210 lbs and the bike is a 60cm. My arms/legs are long.

I did not like the feeling of kneeing myself in the stomach going for a leisurly ride around my neighborhood. i would literally come back from a ride and i would feel like my stomach was punched several times haha

So I went a little extreme and ordered a bontrager elite stem - 25 degrees and 75mm long.

I took it for a spin today (only 3 miles) and I am now in love with the bike It is a hell of a lot more comfortable. i am more upright now but not a considerable amount - enough so that my weight is on the saddle. With the stock stem, it felt like all of weight was on my arms and forearms. I would be fatigued after a short ride and i knew i could not ride like this.

But I digress. Pics are below. The weather is warmer today than usual so I may go out for another spin later. This bike truly flies.

Good stuff on the stem and making the bike fit you.

Went with the family for a vacation to Scottsdale and couldn't miss the opportunity for a ride with my son. We rented (2) Emonda SL6 since I have a SLR and he as a Madone 6.5.

Its hard to compare a rented bike to your own. The rented had Ultegra and I ride Sram Red eTap and he rides Force. The fit was similar with the only problem being the saddle, both were Bontrager Paraidgm, but the rented was a "race" and too soft and mine is a RXXXL. I was impressed with the Ultegra RD, but disliked the shifters... compared to Sram.

For 1/3 the cost of mine the SL6 bis a great deal.

One you shouldn't be kneeing yourself in the stomach. Lose some belly? Anyway, I'm surprised the bike shop sold it to you if you didn't like the fit of the bike. They have the Domane for example, that would have been a much better bike. Or go with a Giant Defy, those would put you in the same position without having to resort to that ridiculous stem.

Have fun riding it, it's your ride, do whatever.

I'm down to around 195 pounds from the ~220 I was when I got the bike so that should help

I was looking at the domanes but got an insanely good price on this bike which is why I bought it over the domane (even though I wanted front and rear iso decouplers!). I got the bike for LESS THAN the annual trek sale price - that's why I could not say no to it.

Since getting the bike and getting a taller/shorter stem, this has helped the fit a lot. I have yet to take it on a 20+ mile ride so that will be the litmus test.

I was not in good shape when I got the bike but I'm in better shape now. If I strengthen my core more, I may try the stock stem again. But only time will tell

To ride the "steep" side you have to approach it from the west from 561. It's about a total of 250-300 feet I think at about an 8.4% avg over 0.4 mile (the real climb itself). Great roads to ride around that part of Florida. Can't go wrong around Winter Garden, Clermont, Howey In The Hills etc

It's already past noon and I haven't ridden my Emonda yet, as I had a few changes, additions and adjustments to make. Once I upload this post, though, I'm out the door.

First photo: The bike a few minutes after I took it outside for the first time and for a first photo. As I have other cassettes, I chose a monster one that I don't already have. It'll be like riding my mt. bike on the steep hills near me.

Last photo: The bike with a major change, the wheels, which I've used on another bike. They're about half a pound lighter than the stock Bontragers. The hubs look like toy hubs. Or like they've been sick.

It's the same with a skinny front skewer that replaces the original. The new one is supposedly made of titanium. It's also got some cheap plastic for the clamp that, from experience, I know can break. There's not enough surface area with the rear ti clamp to keep the bike from squeaking when I push hard on the pedals, so I'm not using it. I'm using a smaller cassette, too.

I like the bike. I know from long experience, though, that it's not much different than riding bikes that are pounds heavier.

The road conditions on Long Island have been terrible. Potholes, sand, loose asphalt, glass, salt and general debris along the shoulders, sometimes extending 2' from the edge of the road. So i've been riding my CX bike with 32mm tires and hydro disc brakes and put 1100 miles on since hanging the Emonda up after Thanksgivings.

So today the temps were in the mid 60s so I dressed in just bibs and a short sleeve jersey. When I went into the garage I pulled the CX bike out and then saw the Emonda hanging from the ceiling and then it hit me... it's time.

WOW what a difference, the Emonda feels like a feather even though the CX only weighs 20#. Steering is extremely light, it accelerates as soon as you started getting out of the saddle.

I love my CX bike, it's a beast and eats up the rough road, but the Emonda is like driving a Porsche 911 after being in a Chevy Suburban over the winter.

I just replaced the Bontrager XXX 90mm carbon stem for a 110mm stem and dropped it 5mm (for now).

Nice bike! What's your opinion on eTAP? I just upgraded from the old 10sp Red groupo, but the servo motor in the rear derailleur was DOA, my LBS has to send back to SRAM for a replacement. Pretty bummed! I am very anxious to get my bike back! Looks like a week out now!

It's been flawless. is it earth shattering over Red mechanical.. no, but it is nice. My other bike has Rival 1x so switching back and forth is no problem.

I have noticed that other eTap RD shift slower than mine. I don;t know why and would be unhappy if mine was slower like those.

Yo.

First BF post. I had this post bookmarked when considering bike frames and ended up getting an Emonda SL.

I previously had a 2005 Jamis Xenith Team, which I loved. It had Dura-Ace 7800 and I was in the process of upgrading the components to DA 7900. When I took the front derailleur off I noticed there was a crack in the hanger. I consulted the LBS who said they could replace the part if I could find it, but it would be iffy in that there is a chance that in addition to the hanger being riveted it may also be glued underneath. If that was the case it would wreck the tube upon removal.

In any event I couldn't source the part. I searched the interwebs and contacted Jamis multiple times, who eventually stopped replying. So for want of a 10 cent piece of metal I purchase a new Emonda frame (I wanted a warranty in case something like that happened again). Darn the luck.

So it mostly has DA 7900 components except for the brakes which are still 7800. The stem is an Easton EC70 90mm with Easton EC70 SL handlbars. I've only ridden if for about a month, on and off the trainer and in the rain and I love it so far. I can't definitively say whether or not it's head and shoulders above the Jamis because I'm no pro and it'd prob be just the money spent talking.

Also during the upgrade process I noticed the brake tracks on my DA 7900 C24 wheels were getting iffy... so I sourced a set of used Aeolus 3s.

Sorry for the naked pic links, I don't have 10 posts yet so I can't post proper image links.
