Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

anyone using Garmin 910xt for training

I have a garmin 305 old but works fine. I am runner too so use it for running and cycling. I would like to upgrade to 910xt and wondered if anyone is using one of these from cycling. I also thought about an Edge 500 but frankly if I can mount the watch on the bike that would be fine. I have heart monitor straps so do not need another one. I figure maybe some cyclist might use this Garmin and wanted some feedback.

Thats what I've been using for the last couple years. It's a great watch and does fine on the bike. I use the quick disconnect strap and have a Bar Fly 1.1 mount for it on the bike.

With that said, I did just order a Garmin Edge 810 for its navigational abilities.

I'm sure a lot of people do, but few of them post here. Most of the people who find their way to the road forum on a bike site (especially when there's also a tri forum here) are pretty dedicated to cycling only. So most people in here are going to be more drawn to Edge computers.

A guy I work with just got a FR920xt and loves it. He got a $10 handlebar mount for it, uses it to display speed, cadence, and HR. Then it's all on Garmin Connect.

I just ordered a Fenix 3. I've been using an Edge 800 for years and I'm going to keep using it to see my ride stats and for maps. If I didn't already have the 800, I'd use my phone for maps when I need them, or paper ones when I'm out of service.

I use the 310 with the quick disconnect strap and couldn't ask for anything better. I don't run much, but on the occasions that I do it's the perfect device to have. As a bike computer, it does everything I need and then some (though I find the gradient can be wildly inaccurate at times, it's not a function I've ever needed before so I don't worry too much about it).
