2010 Fuji Absolute 1 on order from Nashbar
I earlier posted a thread on the Fuji vs. the Trek FX 7.4, trying to figure out what the right bike was for me- and have gone ahead and ordered the Fuji from Nashbar. The price was a major factor- $599 + $25 shipping... I just couldn't touch that deal. The comments provided here notwithstanding on the value of the Fuji- the kicker was when my LBS owner- when I told him about the Fuji I was considering- told me "Dude- BUY IT! I can't touch that component level in a Giant or a Felt for under $1100-1200". Having "the latest" is not a critical factor for me... what IS important to me is having high quality components, and value for the money. While I much preferred the rich appearance of the Trek in charcoal- as opposed to the white Fuji, I'll live with it.
He (LBS) will be happy to assemble/tune it up and fit it to me for a nominal & reasonable fee, and even though I- inexperienced as I am, could do it all- I know I'll start off right immediately. Besides, as straight-shooter as he's been with me, I want to support him as well. BTW- that's a plug for Champion Cycles at Jacksonville Beach, FL. Thanks for the inputs you folks gave me. It reinforced my decision.

Even if the Absolute frame is too agressive you could swap those components over to a different frame and still come out ahead. You have to spend $2000 on a Trek 7.7FX to get a Shimano 105 level components.

I rode the bike while on a business trip to New Hampshire and loved it. It was lighter than I expected and had great components. It is also a beautiful bike. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for your comments... doing a couple of miles on my knobby tired Ibex mountain bike today made me get antsy to get it! This doesn't seem to be a real popular bike, so that gave me some cause for concern. There's not even a lot of pictures on the net of them. Also, it goes against the #1 axiom- never buy a bike before riding it. But after a lot of research, I think I'll be happy with my choice. Nashbar has 23 17" left... I can't believe they haven't sold them out yet.
It just dawned on me, I'm also a fan of Fujifilm Cameras!! Hopefully I'll also be as enamored with their bikes!

Thanks, Slim! I assembled my Ibex Alpine MTB... and I'm sure that the Fuji would be no real problem, it's just that I feel the lbs could better determine if anything got banged out of alignment- and get the shifters set up right the first time, so that all I'd have to worry about is cable stretch.

It's here!
Well, the bike arrived today, apparently safe- in spite of a good-sized tear in the box. I took it to my lbs, and his first comment- in spite of seeming to be happy to assemble it for me for his standard fee was "Uh, oh- another internet bike". When he saw the damage to the box, he nearly refused to accept it- due to possible damage- but we opened the box and everything appeared to be o.k.
I should get the bike back from him Friday. Man, it looks light! Can't wait!
Will post a picture of it Friday.

Good luck with the bike! It sounds exciting. I might add the bike to my (small) collection. The largest Nashbar has is a 19" which they consider a Medium. I'm 6' & have only ridden Large or XL. Please let me know if the 17" is sized right for you.

Call Nashbar...
I would recommend you call Nashbar and discuss sizing with them. I can't remember where I found the Fuji sizing chart- but I understand (and my lbs/former Fuji dealer confirmed) that Fuji's run either small or large to other bikes.... I know the 17 is what was indicated for me, and I'm 5'-7" with a 30" inseam. I'll let you know tomorrow how it actually fits me. They still had over 20 of the 17's in stock when I ordered mine last week. I believe a 19 would work for you- but I'd discuss it with Nashbar.

Got it!
Picked up my bike this afternoon after about a half hour of fitting on a treadmill... allowing for a few interruptions, of course! The bike fits me good, comfortable to get on/off of, unlike my MTB. The seat's up about 6" off the frame, I'm happy with the 17" as recommended by Nashbar/Fuji's sizing chart. If I was much taller, I'd need to go to the 19- but at my 5'7" height/30" inseam, it's fine.

Nice bike. I came very close to buying one of those myself after you started the earlier thread about that deal. That's got to be about the best bargain around for someone looking for a hybrid of that type. The only reason I didn't buy one is that I've decided to convert one of my road bikes into something similar to it.
