Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

...delightful ride on a PX-10 down to Old Sacramento and the Sac river.
Sea lions have swum up from San Fran, following the salmon. That never gets old.

One of the weird things about the snows is how it reflects so much light that you can see in the middle of the night.

We got what I consider a "nuisance" snow, a couple inches. Nevertheless, most schools are closed today and many of my staff are unable to come in.

Sigh.

Thanks for asking. I feel mostly better. I have a lingering cough and energy level still a bit low.

I only realized YESTERDAY that somewhere along the line I lost my sense of smell. It usually comes back in a few weeks. It's funny not being able to smell stuff. I don't know if I lost it earlier in the illness and was just feeling to sick to bother noticing, or if I lost it just yesterday.

NFC East did not represent this postseason, both the Cowboys and Eagles got punked. They might as well have let the Giants and Cardinals represent the division.

How about taste? My Dad's really struggling with it. He says everything tastes bad. So much so he doesn't want to eat.

So is it correct that we had more snow last winter and so far this winter than Philadelphia has had?

Most people's perception of "taste" is a complicated combination/interplay of smell/mouth feel/"true taste" so when most people say they lose their sense of taste it's really their sense of smell.

I can still taste sweet stuff (a brownie is sweeter than a piece of bread, for example) but the sense of taste feels diminished. But my take on this is that my "true" sense of taste is fine but smell is gone.
