Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Interesting. Humans can get struvite stones, rarely, but they are typically formed in the renal pelvis and form staghorn stones. These are HUGE and we usually recommend surgical removal. Calcium oxalate are most common. We sometimes see uric acid/urate stones too.

you probably couldn’t get a human to adhere to a very strict monotonous diet for months it takes to dissolve these stones

not my department but I’d question whether you really can dissolve a urethral stone with diet, as the contact time of the stone with the acidic urine is fairly short compared to the that of bladder stones. I assume you’re just hoping the urethral stone will pass while you’re dissolving the rest of the stones, or preventing more from forming. But I could be wrong, maybe they’re dissolvable.

Without stone analysis you don’t really know if stones are struvite vs calcium oxalate. The diet to dissolve struvite stones can make calcium oxalate stones more likely to form actually. But you haven’t really lost anything if you make Ca Oxalate stones worse with dietbecause Ca Oxalate stones are a surgical disease anyway. If the diet doesn’t work, sx is the next step.

While building a bike for a guest who arrives next week, I harvested a crankset from one of my more frequent riders. And what to my wondering eyes should appear? They are mis-matched. 170 nds/ 172.5 ds. Could that be why my hips were all akimbo a few weeks ago?

Looks like our roads dried out before temps went below freezing. So today’s ride is on!

I really wish I had gotten out to tackle that kom by my house yesterday. It would have a been a perfect tail wind for it. One of the not stronger riders finally placed in the top 10 yesterday, I think I could have gotten number 1.

I rode a 172.5/175 combo for a while and couldn't really tell.

So I think I might have figured out what is contributing to the leg fatigue other than riding more. My wife recently started purchasing walmart diet soda. I’m not a big soda drinker but I started to have one with dinner last week. The days after I drank one my legs felt like ****. Didn’t catch it til today though. I had a day off, and rode today and my legs felt worn out like I did a long ride recently which I have not. I did drink soda yesterday though.

Any thoughts?

Don't drink that ****. No clue about the leg deal, but that stuff is just overall bad for you. I drink the stuff from Bai, but with that, you have to be careful if you're caffeine sensitive.

Interesting note from my ride yesterday:

I rode this exact same route on Monday on my 33lb Trek 710. It took 40 minutes 12 seconds according to Strava.

So that's a big, heavy bike with wide tires that doesn't really inspire super spirited riding. Definitely a bike you sit and spin on rather than get out of the saddle and hammer.

Yesterday I took my Super Le Tour 12.2, it's got light-ish wheels with 28mm tires, pretty quick geometry, and really loves it when you get out of the saddle. So, naturally, I thought that I could smash that 40:12 time from earlier in the week.

I was actually slower by about a minute So maybe its just me that's slow, not the bike.

I'm blaming stopping to take that picture.

I just swapped components from my old mountain bike over to a new frame.

The rear hydro brake line for the is a little bit too long, but I'm just leaving it because I don't want to deal with all of that.

We had a chilly but fantastic club ride. We dropped one rider unknowingly but he still had a good ride.

PSA : riding outside, even in the cold, is way better than Zwift. It’s not even close.

Soda, diet or otherwise, is the debil. We never even have it in the house.

News from the front.
i have lightning fast internet here in the city.
Question from the front.
It has quickly become clear that applying grease to seatposts, stems, and threads is an unknown practice here. I currently have three bikes laying on their sides out in the gravel, soaking ine of the pedals in brake fluid. The question is this though. The back wheels of these mtbs are solid axle, and the front, qr. Is it an allowed practice to lightly grease the rear axle before re& applying the nut? I'm finding myself greasing bottle boss screws.

Now, if you think that's absurd, consider that the pack of mini cans in the fridge is a couple years old, not because my dad hasn't visited, but because he's taken to traveling with his own supply of water Pepsi in the car.
