We went out for bagels and I was shocked to see an option for a bacon bagel. I was speechless.

For 15,000 I thought I would do a throw back. August of 2006. Garrison North Dakota at the end of CANDISC, where they served buffalo brats for lunch. I was a serious cyclist back then.

How do these threads suddenly go from "3-month chunks" to 30-day chunks?

There was notice. The staff is nothing if not considerate and congenial.

You caught a fish with your handlebars? Nice big one, too.

Peloton Shelter Dog
Why did they close the October Addiction early? WTF is wrong with the idiots running this place, they can't read a calendar? It's still October. In fact given what a crappy month October was in my business it will still be October for a friggin week as we try to jam billings into the month to save it (unpossible). Is this that Billy D clown? He doesn't live so far from here; I should to over there and whack him upside the head with my bicycle pump.

My wife decided to drink rum last night, so she has a hangover today.
She can't remember a thing. At least she didn't barf on me.

Vain, But Lacking Talent
I'm digging the refresh on Halloween day. Maybe because I've been a slacker and can't keep up.
But for me, this is seriously the best time of the year. It's stopped being hot (ok, well, maybe it is forecast to be 90 on Thursday...) Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's all come in quick succession and I get to watch my little ones make their first memories. It's definitely special.
And on the cycling front. I'm officially a cyclist (as opposed to a bicycle owner) again. Got my 4th ride in 8 days done last night and managed to get a flat in the dark. I was conveniently near a place I could basically hang the bike and use the front light to do my work. I was all composed until I started to put the rear wheel back on and heard coyotes howling fairly close by. And then when I got on the bike, my light informed me that I was low on battery with about 8 miles of riding left. Gee, thanks. Put it down a few settings to where I could just see enough and made it back home.

I used to have a beautiful Cannondale CX bike with dynamo lights front and rear and lovely fenders. The frame got smashed when I had my little accident where I tore my ACL. I really do need to build up another dynamo wheel. It should go on this bike, even if it never gets fenders.

It's a town in North Dakota near Lake Sakakawea, which is part of the Missouri River. It bills itself as the Walleye capital of the world.
Oh. You mean CANDISC. CANDISC was a week-long ride put on by the ND state park agency. Couple of hundred riders. Due to declining numbers, oil traffic ruining many of the good routes and increasing difficulty getting communities to host the event, this year was the ride's last.
It was a fun event. Very laid back. One day we camped in Strasburg and took a short school bus ride out of town to visit the birthplace of Lawrence Welk. His homestead is preserved as a tourist attraction. A niece of his gave us a tour. He grew up in a wood-paneled sod house that contains the bed where he was born as well as many other pieces of original furniture. His dad's blacksmith shop was still there as well.
ND is an interesting place to ride. Lot's of homey stuff, some kitsch and tiny, dying/dead towns. Entertainment one night was a popular polka band. Residents came out from miles around. Rode passed a stone monument marking the location of the first white baby to born in the territory that would become the state. Estimated population of about 750,000 people in 2016. Think about that for a second. Philly has roughly twice as many people as the entire state of ND.
