Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We had a very spirited 100 mile ride out to Lancaster and back. We stopped at a possibly famous cupcake place for our main rest stop. I was a big shot and bought cupcakes for everyone. I felt good the whole time.

It’s a lovely day out. The foliage is at its peak but weather feels more like August. I will take it!

#grateful

So I can’t say ***** Tonk Women by the Stones? At least they let us say Cracker Barrel, not that I have ever been there or plan to.

datlas guess not. Not sure how/why that triggers the sensor.

Also, glad you enjoyed your ride! It will probably be a long while before I ride for 100 miles. My bday is in a couple weekends so if I can get some help for the Mrs. from the inlaws, I might sneak out for a longish ride. But I think I'd cap at 4-4.5 hours as long as I still have to be waking up twice/night (on average).

Sorry, hip fractures are the worst. Mine was broken into 4 pieces, risk of embolism and vascular necrosis, 5 days in hospital.

I was told that with such an injury, that I would never get my pre-fracture fitness back. I said to myself, “to hell with that”, and I threw myself into rehab mode. I rode 750,000 vertical feet that year, and 1.2 million the next year. I was more fit than I ever was.

I guess my message is that a hip fracture isn’t a handicap, as long as you’re willing to put in the work. And you’ll be surprised how soon you will be able to start training. I could bike weeks before I could walk.

That word is slang that black people use for white people they want to insult. It’s not inflammatory like the N word but I gave up understanding the censor filter awhile ago.

Back to cycling, as a parent you will have to be VERY judicious with your away time. You will do best with shorter rides. Maybe mrs Tmonk might give you a hall pass for a long ride occasionally, but I know when my kids were young, there was NFW I could sneak out for a 5-6 hour ride.

It’s amazing what a century will do for one’s position on the leaderboard.

Dry season brings its own outside work. Sprinkler heads need to be reviewed and renewed. Gardening commences. Machete work clearing growth that is between the sprinkler head and its chosen group of plants. Etc. Generally more enjoyable work.
Very little in the way of mowing.

Same.

My daughter has a roommate who is really quite attractive. She frequently gets men who come up to her and talk to her, ask for her number, etc., when food shopping or even pumping gas, so I suppose good looks can be both a blessing AND a curse.

FWIW I agree with your decision to give up riding. There Are safer ways to stay fit and have fun. Thats a helluva lot of hardware implanted.

Speaking of yardwork, I spent an hour in my front yard using a hybrid approach on the leaves. Leaf blower and rake. Then off to lunch and then the KSU game. The Owls are having a down year but picked up their 2nd win against 5 losses.

We have no deciduous trees, hence no leaves to rake or blow.

Friend in Montana said it was below zero when she got up this morning and only 4 degrees at 9 a.m. Born and raised in Southern California, she hates the cold. Hubby wants to stay there, though.

Started on a 55 mile club ride and friends wanted to extend it 10 miles and add a bit more climbing so I went with them instead of staying on the shorter route. I was the slowest climber but they waited. I'm pretty wiped out. I tried to get them to just drop me toward the end but they wouldn't. Perfect weather, super clear.

Yeah it’s a Strava Addiction club. They will let pretty much anyone from here join.

More apple clean up today. Another 30 (or so) bushels moved from under the tree to the edge of the woods for the wildlife.
