Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Back from yet another swim. It turns out that 30 minutes is all I can manage before I quit from boredom.

The good news is my cruising time has improved from terrible (2:20/100Y) to mediocre (2:00/100Y) in the past six weeks. My tri is a week from today.

The s/c handles it fine, it can still squeeze into small Colorado sites, and fits nicely on the parking pad next to the house. We put solar panels on, so the three of us and Lewis are now an elite fighting crew. Three racks on the truck, although the Redline rides inside on our bed. Almost lost it on I25 last year so changes were necessary.

That sounds like it would be a blast to have. I had an uncle who was big in to road tripping and went on a handful of trips with him growing up. I was thinking the other day about how it'd be fun to do the same with the boy, but I think that the wife would take some convincing.

This is fast:

100 m Free; 49.57

200 m Free; 1:48.21

100 m Free; 43.41

200 m Free; 1:42.53

The first two times are Michael Phelps. The second two are Ryan Lochte. I think those guys have some gold medals.

If you can convince your wife, it's totally worth the investment. It gets everyone outside doing stuff together. I highly recommend it for families with kids our age. If he hasn't already, your boy will start to get pretty easy. My son loves camping and sleeping on his Thomas bed. Excellent family fun.

Again, your wife will be the key. I know one wife who hates but tolerates it. And it's an expensive initial investment. Ours is a 2003 and we got an outstanding deal on it. Really any trailer will do. New Airstreams are ridiculously overpriced.

Clown 2 swam a 1650 on 1/9/16. Her time was 23:33.14

Yup they would beat me in a swim. But I may be faster on the bike. Maybe not. Sigh.

Don't lose heart. Remember, they are 17, 14 and 13. And, they've pretty much been swimming their whole life.

Let me see if I can find some bike times.

Clown 2 had a 19:23 on a 10k ride.

Tough to compare bike times due to draft and terrain issues, but I am pretty sure I could drop them.

I agree. The Richmond course was pretty flat. But the weather was awful and they did do some drafting. I'll go back and find the bike time the CD had at Clemson. That was not a draft race and the course had some elevation change, but not a lot.
