Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I once saw a guy, probably mid-30s, wearing a t-shirt, shorts, flip flops, and a down vest to the grocery store. It was mid-February, snow on the ground, and about 15F.

Clearly, the cold had impaired his brain function.

Same as most of the Northern tier. I’ve had shorts on all day running around doing shopping and errands. 54°

I see that on Saturday and Sunday during football season. Mad dash for more beer and chips.

But I suspect they might ding me for having the bars are a "Jaunty Angle", which is really a question of camera location.

BTW, my Ti bike (see above) may not be the cushiest ride in my stable, but it's right up there, esp. with GP5Ks. And it's the bike that knocked the Canyon out of permanent Sunday Bike status.

You probably haven't looked at Athens County Ohio. Doesn't get much snow, or horrible cold. Plenty of hills, and, and least in part, a jewel of progressive politics in a wasteland of red. It has a strong cycling community. It is somewhat remote though, if a big city is what you're looking for.

A local rider got in a nasty crash a couple months ago. Broke his clavicle. He just posted that after 6.5 weeks he still doesn’t have any mobility in his shoulder, any movement he does have causes extreme pain. I can’t even imagine what he is going through.

Hope it’s nothing. I once got turned down for life insurance because of a few red cells in a pee sample. That was from “exercise” of another kind.

You can do it, I'm seventy+ and I was doing shorts last week in the 50s, Thankfully the legs are much more durable than the torso.

Okay, so, no, it was NOT the bike. I mentioned above that the last two rides, where I was riding the Centurion Ironman I'd gotten back in 2021, I felt slow and was slow, and I wondered if it might be something wrong with the bike.

I was going to try another bike, but I decided to just give this one another shot. That turned out to be a good thing! Today was totally different! I beat Monday's time on the 22 mile route by SEVEN MINUTES! Third fastest time on that route, which Strava says I've ridden 25 times. It only lost to the Litespeed and the Bianchi!

I guess I was having two off days.
