I can relate... I can push it up to 22-23mph for a mile or so, then nawt. 18mph is about my top sustainable speed. 15mph is much more doable. I feel like a speed monster riding with the beginner/lower intermediate group where they consider 10mph a break-neck speed.
14.9 miles today on the Roubaix. Stayed pretty cold out, overcast. Some days 13mph feels like I'm really pushing it, no energy.

Slow-wind blowing-tired 26 miles. Felt more like 40 miles. Did get out at 0540 with wife for our 5 mile walk. Maybe that added to the tired legs.

Got back a while ago from a nice leisurely 35.05 mile ride @ 15 mph (avg) speed, and hit my driveway at the 2hr 20min mark.
Edit: Look close at my old Fuji... It was balancing very carefully on its left pedal against the concrete curb!

This morning's weather was cool and damp but we took the tandem out anyway. The end result:

Went for a 10 mile easy cruise around the country side near where I live. A bit chilly...am just learning how to dress to handle 40 degree temps when riding my bike. Did it the right way this morning.

Oh, and I did ride today. No pics. It was a short 28-miler with the duffers that were mostly even older than me. Bored, and near the end we were approaching a stretch that had a Strava segment I knew about but had never put any effort toward. Well, today I was going to put my name up in the top ten, just to make the local race club read my name again! I rode moderately hard, and felt good that I'd done well enough to meet my goal of top-ten. Imagine my surprise when I downloaded the Garmin and discovered I'd tied the leader for the KOM. I don't think they hate it when I do that, but it gives them a goal, to paceline well enough to beat the old guy who's riding solo.

I got 42 miles in this morning, for some reason my phone shut off 22 miles in and had no data for the remaining 20 miles. Starting off this morning it was 34 degrees, brrr!

Got a bit of a late start today waiting for the rain to pass through. Warmer than yesterday -59 deg but the wind was a beotch. 41.3 miles @ 16 mph. It was all I could do to manage that pace with the wind. Around the last four miles a group of young Asian lads on fixies, ten to fifteen of them, blew by me on the seawall. I take my inspiration where I find it so I got after it and gave chase. As I picked them off one by one I loved the look on their faces when they looked over and saw this old guy dropping them like bad habits.

Congrats on the KOM! As for mowing the lawn, ah, no, we just rode for 30.9 miles, and got the bike incredibly dirty!

After a couple of days of continuous rain, and three consecutive flat tires, I enjoyed a leisurely 15-20 mile ramble west of Fort Worth on a cool partly sunny Sunday afternoon. Mostly exploring the sorta-rural areas to my west. Lots of cul-de-sacs and dead ends in these residential areas, so no point in going too fast. Very pleasant. Also getting the bike dialed in a bit more to my liking, including shifting the saddle forward a bit - feels more efficient on uphills. Saw a couple other cyclists heading back toward Foat Wuth, so I'm not the only one who enjoys that end of town.

Catching up for the weekend, Friday and Saturday were both 26, or so, mile days, same route as the rest of this week. Friday was a beautiful day out, but the clouds ahead of the remnants of Patricia started coming in our area on Saturday. Sunday was windy with scattered showers, so no ride since I had 150+ miles for the week. It looks like a few days of tropical amounts of rain are in the cards, but not a bad as what Houston and Dallas areas have had to deal with. Everyone over on Texas, please be safe and don't end up a statistic for driving into the deepening waters.

Finished my second Coast 2 Coast ride yesterday. 225 miles of absolutely awesome riding. This year's ride was definitely much better than last year's ride. I'm ready to do it again!

Feeling "laid back" today so I took the trike for 16.9 miles at a lazy pace (11-13mph). Cool but beautiful day.

I bought a new pontoon boat 3 months ago. It's been drought here for 3 months, so boating has been less than premium. I bought a new bike 3 days ago, and got to ride it once, then the bottom fell out of the clouds yesterday, so I didn't get to ride yesterday or today. Talk about luck!

Nothing Sunday, or Monday, the remnants of Patricia stopped any thoughts of riding. On top of the rainfall amounts we are getting the winds are gusting to 45mph, at times. Our local County Fair was cancelled Monday, due to storm and flooding conditions. I can remember only one other time that happened, a tornado or high winds, IIRC, back many years ago. Today is iffy, at best. At least I am getting all the annual maintenance done early, greasy, grimy hands are the rule right now. Bottom bracket was pulled, cleaned, greased and reinstalled, new chain goes on this afternoon.

In the news last night, they said that Mobile to Pensacola got hammered and all the E-W roads along the coast were flooded. Hope you were high enough!

20+ mile ramble to downtown and back for a bike ride sponsored by the mayor. Unfortunately I arrived too late for the group ride but it was a lovely evening anyway, with great weather for the ride and a Halloween party at the water gardens.
And I seem to be enjoying night rides more than I'd anticipated. While I have some decent lights - drivers see me clearly - I may add a more potent headlight if this becomes a habit, just to be sure I don't run over too much avoidable debris at night.

Jim, strike the fairly, and insert relatively, please. Flooding is serious stuff, as close to the river as we are, (~ 1.5 miles, less to the creeks) and coastal living isn't as sweet as some would have you believe, either.
Wednesday, 26+ miles, good to do a complete ride, after missing 2 days, and getting caught out in a shower Tuesday. Needed to get in some decent mileage, and to see that the new chain was as smooth as expected/hoped for. Now, the cassette is next, I managed to put just a bit over 15,000+ miles on the original, no complaints about the life span. I'll be sticking with the SRAM 1070, 11-26.

We had torrential rains lasts night and occasional rain this morning. I'm sitting at my desk still with wet feet as I type even though I brought dry clothes with me on the bike. A rain jacket lets you believe you are staying dry as you slowly get wet form the inside.
