So sorry to hear! I thought she was getting treatment.
Much as I love my fellow neuronerds, I think the best approach to that condition is multidisciplinary and heavily reliant on rehabilitation, supportive care, and getting phone calls returned. Is there a full-scale pain clinic available nearby?

She is talking about going to our family doc who is quick to use specialists and make referrals. I gotta go. Fill you in when we get back.

Good God! Walked over to the Wawa across the way from my NJ office. Noticed a guy parked illegally behind the store in a vehicle with markings from MobilityWorks, which I later learned is a large outfit that sells vehicles for the disabled. During my walk back, I noticed the guy seemed a little slumped over. I stopped for a minute, fearing something I had seen before. Guy then starts up the vehicle, moves forward a bit very slowly then stops. Started to go into the store to report him but decided to try to confirm my suspicion. Walked over to the passenger side window and could clearly see the guy manipulating a syringe in his forearm. Turned around to head to the store but he started to drive off, again very slowly. I followed him, yelling for him to stop and letting him know I had seen what he was doing. Didn't work, and he drove onto the busy highway.
Got back tot he office and called the 1-800 number to report him. Unfortunately, I hadn't thought to whip out my cell phone and take a photo of his plate, but I could tell it was from out of state. I did describe the driver. The woman I spoke with said she would alert the two local locations they have, one of which is maybe a 10-15 min. drive from here.

I have a patient with a SEVERE case of CRPS. It was a worker's comp case so I could not directly manage it. She went from one ortho to another to another, each one ordered another scan, this poor lady had more CT scans and MRI scans than you can shake a stick at. I told her VERY early on that she had CRPS (back then we called it RSD, but same animal).
After 2 years down the WC rabbit hole, she finally was able to see me about it officially, and I was able to send her to our local pain program to confirm the diagnosis. Sadly, she has ongoing chronic pain that she has had to learn to live with. I wish the stupid WC docs would have listened to me, I could have saved them mucho dinero and saved the patient mucho hassles.
The whole motor-vehicle and Workers' Comp healthcare "system" is a parallel universe with its own sets of rules.
Sad.

I am not a comic book geek, but I do recall the "Captain Marvel" TV show from the 1970's. He said "Shazam!" to convert from little Billy to the super-hero. I remember everyone use to call Captain Marvel "Shazam" and I would remind them no, that's the command to transform but that's NOT the super-hero's name....
I just saw some online clickbait about a new Shazam! reboot and it looks like the idiots have won. They changed his name to Shazam.
Sigh.

My knees and ankles will never allow me to run. I'm lucky to be back on a bike.

Understood. In that case, my advice is ride your bike as best you can, and be sure to buy a bulk 3 pound bag of baby-cut carrots. Munch away as much as you like on them when hungry. You get the crunch and at least some oral satisfaction, but should not get gain weight from it.

I might go see Shazam tonight... Depends on how the packing goes (leaving VA in the morning).

As a neurologist, I'd like you to look at y wife's hand before she has CRPS if she doesn't already.
We are going to see her orthopedist in an hour and I'm ready to kick his but or at least fire him. It's been over 6 months and my wife's hand still throbs and buzzes to the point that she's almost in tears at ties. Her orthopedist hasn't sent her to any nerve specialists or even a hand specialist. He just keeps saying that it will probably go away. I think his time in y wife's service is pretty much over. We'll know in an hour or so.

I am happy to say I have lived in a reimbursement-free, socialist paradise, as a provider and a patient, for the last three decades and am blissfully innocent of the worker's comp system.
