Okay, State of the Shop.
Remember how that router and table were pissin' me off? Yeah, well I decided to maybe overdo it in correcting the shortcomings - new table top and insert plate from Incra, and a 3.5hp Triton router. I built the cabinet last week, though I still need to add the face frame, make some drawers/doors, add power paddle and the router table fence, which is the item that I'd hoped to pick up at the LWWS today. The original plan was to get a router lift to house my existing Bosch router, but the new Triton has a really good lift mechanism built in, it's much more powerful than the Bosch and it was only ~30 bucks more than the lift. I'll have the Triton live in the table while the Bosch will be used handheld - win/win. Hopefully I'll get my hands on the fence on Friday or Saturday.
Next, the hand tool work bench is almost done. Got some heavy duty levelers put on it and it's rock solid, drilled the dog holes on the top for work-holding, installed the vise and the lower shelf (T&G'd the shelf boards on the new router table - damn is that thing both smooth and beastly). I still need to make a tool rest/planing stop to go between the two slabs.
Another recent addition that's not shown is a jig procured from Craigslist the other week - it's for knocking out mortise and tenon joints at small shop production levels. It's super sweet. I put together a little decorative table with it, as a proof of concept, and gave it to my wife; it's maple and walnut. It didn't turn out quite as I'd like, but I know what I'd change and it was a good learning process.
So yeah, that's what I've been workin' on, along with the Murphy bed.

It's been an interest that hasn't gotten enough time. As the kids grow, I'll have more time on my hands, though, and I've been thinking about how I could operate as a small business and at least self-fund. That's one of the reasons for the mortise and tenon jig purchase - I have a few ideas on production pieces that could (hopefully) create enough revenue to fund tools and materials for pieces that would be more interesting.

I finally tried Erg mode for a workout on Zwift. I forget who described it as "Merciless", but, yeah. I was just doing the "SST Short". It really IS merciless! I realized when I'd done this workout with my dumb trainer and Zpower, I was catching little bits of rest, fluctuating around the target power. When I overshot it, I'd lighten up a bit for a couple seconds, then push back up again, and that little bit of rest makes a huge difference. In Erg mode, the power chases you, so if I tried to lighten up I'd just be pushing as hard, but at a lower cadence. Nowhere to catch a second of rest! I'm going to have to build up to that.
I stopped early, and just rode around the Volcano in Watopia 5 times, each time beating the previous time, except the last time I used as a cool down. That's more my style, but I think I need the structured workouts to be part of my riding this winter. I want to go farther and faster next summer.

Shipping next week to my LBS.
Was going to do an Aspero, but this is similarly equipped for less and also a little more utilitarian with mud guards etc.
Pretty excited

Last night's zwift hour was greater London (I think) the 2nd half was all climbing. Just under 1000 ft. My legs are not happy with me today. Some was 10% . Thats a lot for a flatlander.

I may finally get to ride outside today. I think this is the longest stretch of days in a row, seven, of no outdoor riding in many years due to weather.

I keep thinking about going out on the roads but chicken out every time. I'd probably be fine during the day but I don't really want to be out there when it starts getting dark and I can't see the road surface as clearly. Plus the MTB will be slower, has much wider tires, and if it is slick I'll feel a lot more comfortable with flat bars and less weight on the front wheel. I'll probably put flats on it, too.

I keep forgetting to mention this, but I think about it with each of the snowy, icy outdoor rides on the Haanjo. I'm feeling so much more comfortable on it and it's all down to the realization that, for riding in loose stuff, I load the front wheel too much. The first couple rides, I realized that my instincts, when entering slippery or loose stuff, were to do things that would load the front even more - braking, standing, pushing on the bars, trying to steer, etc - and that was just wrong. Now, sitting back, unloading the front tire and just letting it happen... just works. Cool.

Listening to a podcast and I learn that a lot of people are watching chess on Twitch, whatever that is. #Old
Also, chess is "popular" now, supposedly.
