Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Gotta pull them way up. Mine have sticky silicone on the inside.

If it makes you feel any better I am usually last on those long climbs. That's why he was waiting, to make sure I was ok.

Yes.

I've not seen a tree shaking machine. Or how they shell them.

Yeah, I pull the tops of the knee warmers up at least 3/4 of the way up my thighs, then pull the bibs on over that. Friction between the bibs and the warmers keeps them in place, but that may be specific to the combination of Louis Garneau bibs and Pearl Izumi warmers. I have a pair of bibs I bought on sale when Performance was closing all their stores. The pad is extra-thick over (under?) the sit bones, which is a mild annoyance because I can't really feel where I am on the saddle. I tried them under tights, and spent the WHOLE RIDE finding myself sliding forward in the saddle and having to skooch back. Another pair of bibs, same tights, no problem. Weird.

Yesterday it was low 50s, but sunny, with light winds, and I saw riders everything from short sleeve jerseys and shorts to full jackets, tights and booties. I wore a thin base layer, long sleeve jersey, and gillet vest over bibs and knee warmers, wool socks and toe booties, and full finger gloves. I was comfy the whole ride - at one point I tried taking off my vest, since it was sunny, but half a mile later I put it on again.

Nah, it doesn't. My idea of a hilly day is 1,000 of gain in 20 miles. Pretty flat here.

Ended up ordering the PI bib knickers since I could get them through REI. There is a store close to us so it makes for an easy return if they don't fit the bill.

Yesterday, it was in the low to mid-50s with 15 mph winds. Since we went to the MUP, it was mostly shaded. Knees could have used a bit of warmth, so that was what I was after. May pick up a pair of knee warmers as well, but a lot of reviews have people complaining about them not staying up.

As for really cold temps, well if it's 35 or less out I'm not likely riding since a day or two later it will be 60 or 70.

Not everybody is into hill challenges, I’ve always avoided them as much as possible.

The girls walked the dogs while the boys rode the day after Thanksgiving. I got some new cred (as little as it was) from that day.
