On Wednesday, I was in a meeting with a client around 5:00 p.m. and we hear tires squeal and a smash. He and I look down and it looks like a car turned in front of a cyclist coming down the hill. We can only see her legs because a tree is in the way. Front wheel of her carbon Trek (like Vol's, post Postal pre aero) is mangled to hell. She's not moving.
We try to continue our appt but I have that terrible feeling. I look down again and you can see blood coming from her leg, probably where it hit the car. Still not moving. She has no show socks and cycling shoes, so I'm hopeful she was wearing a helmet. AMR takes her away and the older couple driving the car sit with the police below my office.
Yesterday a cyclist that was hit by a van from behind a few miles from my house tweeted he was able to sit up for the first time since the accident on July 20th. Van driver left him broken in the rain until someone found him and drove him down the road to the hospital.
Before bed last night, I watched the body cam footage released by the Colorado Springs Police Department. Young kid shot in the back four times while running away. He goes to the ground, tries to raise his hands as instructed, and then bleeds out. Had a hard time sleeping last night.
I was going to ride in this morning and drove instead. On my way in, I thought of Addiction. Hope you guys are doing well and no one has been hit by cars or fallen off ladders in the last year.

I did that at the vet last week. A box of Klondikes and 2 boxes of Drumsticks= prescriptions filled in 5 minutes.

Just got back to the valley of the sun. After two days riding at 5700-7200' elevation, I should be getting some KOMs down here at 1300' tomorrow.
If I can wake up early enough to beat the heat.

My friend that wants me to ride with him on his first century attempt tomorrow (in his region, not mine) still doesn't have a proposed route. This should be fun.

Home.
Drivers in Belize pull out and pass whenever they feel like it. In one instance, while being passed, I had to hit the brakes and the oncoming car was run off the road, There were many similar incidents. I thought Mexicans drove poorly, but they look like angels now. I don't believe there are any four lanes there, nor shoulders.

Quintana Roo, home state of Cancun, was still listed as a barely inhabited territory in 1975.

I hope to ride a bike today, for the first time in around 3 weeks.
In other news, I ordered a pair of vintage Mavic tubular rims and am currently shopping for tires. There will be only one new thing left for me in the C&V world. Campagnolo.

@seedsbelize, daughter who traveled with us to Belize at least four times as a child, ordered a box of assorted Marie Sharp’s hot sauce to take back to Ireland. Good stuff, for sure.

As with many things enjoyed by the many, I can take or leave Marie Sharp products. Panaracer Pasela, the official tire of C&V, is another one on that list.

And now I must peel myself out of this hammock and go ride, before it gets too hot to do so. I wonder if I'll remember how.

Panaracer now has some performance tubeless tires that I'd like to try - Race A Evo 4, or something like that. Almost bought them, but got cold feet about how scary light they are, 'specially for a tubeless. Went with the slightly more conservative Hutchisons, instead. Next time. Maybe.

Got a cinnamon swirl loaf from the local bakery and made a big French toast breakfast for the family. Delicious, and now I'm stuffed. But if I'm to ride today, I need to get out soon - afternoon family activities planned. Oy. At least I was planning on an easy effort, anyway.

Strange Icelandic Boyfriend went out looking for Soylent this morning. The lady at the 7-11 told him he should be drinking something else. Last time it was PBR which he had to have, so this is an improvement.

Any Gen-Xers in here? I'm going to see the Violent Femmes tonight. Haven't been to a concert in ages. Hope we don't get rained out.
They were my favorite group as a kid. One year my cool older sister was going to take me to see them for my birthday but then my parents found out and wouldn't let me go. So 30 years later I'm getting my redemption!
(Also I fall into that weird gap between gen-x and millenial but I had older sisters so I've always identified with gen-x even though college had become unaffordable by the time I went to school.)

They were co headlining with Ben Folds, who I am ambivalent about, but his show was also very entertaining and enjoyable.

Report: concert lived up to 25 years of expectations. I guess when you've been playing together for nearly 40 years you get good at it. They played Country Death Song, which was cool.

Near KC. I'm not quite sure what the deal was but I think they were only playing together for a few dates within the context of their respective larger tours.

Vittoria’s are hard to beat. Whatever their top model is. CX or something like that now. Fair price from England when bought in the US. eBay works too.

In the Garmin/Strava world of bewilderment, my wife and I rode our tandem today and she noticed on a 3 mile segment that she was 4 seconds faster than me.
