Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Casually walking around bristol and a dog charges me. I had no where to go so I just ignored it, but it got inches away from me. I was sure I was going to get bit. I don’t know if me ignoring the dog stopped it or if I wasn’t actually in any danger.

Your routes are considerably less repetitive than a <3 mile lake loop. And the guy is spoiled with options - even if he were to stick with bike paths - his lake is a part of the Minneapolis Grand Rounds, which is prolly 50 miles worth of paths.

I am the only one that likes it in our household. I always wondered perhaps I served it with chopped up extra firm tofu, mushrooms in tomato or Alfredo sauce, I’d get more traction, but alas, I’m still the only one that likes it in our house.

Geez. I hope every so often he did it counterclockwise, just for variety.

I mean, I realize that all my riding is done on pretty much the same 40 miles of road, with the preponderance on about 16 miles of that. But < 3 miles? That's like running around a track.

Not everyone has the discipline to do office park repeats, I see.

I went to the club #1 Sunday hammerfest today for the first time in a while. There was a B group today which is very unusual this year. Of course, I don't have enough sense to stay with the B group and chased the faster group for several miles and realized how tired I was from yesterday's wind ride. I finally dropped off and took a shortcut to the coffee stop. It was good to see some people I have not seen much this year.

Spaghetti squash was good. Pro tip: after roasting halves in oven for 35 minutes, remove with a fork (not a spoon) makes the spaghetti more separated/aerated. Served with marinara and grated Romano, side of marinated artichokes and salad. A fine dinner.

I like it with pesto, or we make Pad Thai with it.

After reading and hearing that spending too much tome in Zone 3 and 4 is not the best use of time on the bike, I set out to do a Zone 2 ride today, which it turns out I mostly did. I had to grit my teeth a couple times, spinning up some rises I usually hammer up, and being passed by guys riding at the pace I'd normally ride. Ended up with 58% of my time in Z2, with another 5% in Z1.

And somehow, still got a handful of PRs. I just can't lose for winning!

I also fell in love with the Bianchi again. New Zipp handlebars, new Fulcrum wheelset, new Centaur crankset, and running 28s instead of the 25s I've always run - it was like a whole new bike! Even flatting 2 1/2 miles from home couldn't ruin my day. Turns out that the little Lezyne Road Drive minipump can actually get a 28mm tire up to a useful pressure within a reasonable interval!

Weird thing about the new wheels, though - they're replacing the Fulcrum Racing 5s that came with the bike back in 2006. Those had THE LOUDEST freewheel! Like a swarm of angry Murder Hornets! The new wheels - also Fulcrum Racing 5s, but the 2020 model are SILENT. The bike is literally louder when pedaling than when coasting. It's eerie.

Today I did a dozen laps of the Veloway, and I'm also thinking of COTA nights. But yes, I do have multiple total routes. And if I had your playground available, I'd definitely take advantage. Really happy the bike infrastructure props got funded over the election, so we'll have a big gravel network built. And it will connect from the Veloway all the way down to the small towns south of us. Assuming we stay here.

When we moved into this house, we discovered the yard was almost twice as big as the manicured lawn. The back half was overgrown with volunteer plum trees and ivy. In fact it was so creepy that we did a 'haunted forest' for the kids at Halloween the first couple years. We took stabs at it, including renting a herd of goats one time. (You know how they say "A kid'll eat Ivy, too"? It's a lie. They ate literally every other green thing in the yard before they finally started eating ivy.)

We finally had to accept that it had gotten away from us. So we had the guy who redid our front yard come in to clean up the back yard. I no longer feel bad about not cleaning it up myself, because we've FILLED 1 20' x 6' debris box, and are on our way to filling a 15' x 6' one. Holy crow!

Now I have a big, blank canvas and no idea what to paint on it! Mrs. GeneJockey is thinking "edible landscape", and I'm thinking a FEW citrus trees, maybe a fig, maybe some apples. We'll see.

Steak doesn't need to be deep-fried to get flavor.
