Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New bottle cage is on the bike. New torque wrench worked as advertised. Going to be 20 degrees tomorrow when I clip in. So will prolly only do about a 20 miler. 90 miles to go for 5k.

My brother and his family left Tejas for Christmas in a mountain cabin in Pigeon Forge. Are now frozen in (literally), and have been without power for 36 hours. Can't drive out because of the ice.

I am also more concerned about icy roads rather than the cold. Fake miles for me today.

I hooked up the Kickr yesterday for my first real indoor ride. Because I don't train for anything and JRA, I use Fulgaz as my program. Yesterday, I almost ran over a pedestrian in Wrenbury, UK and later almost got hit by a car.

You did not take a sip of the Zwift Kool-Aid? I think you can get a free trial.

Not much ice here, but my hands and feet just can’t take it for more than 20 min at these temps. I think we’ve got a Zwift quorum here. Let’s set up a ride!

Hope you were wearing a mask in the UK.

I was an original user of Zwift when it first came out and was free and I even paid for it for awhile after they started charging. I got bored with the corniness, multitudes, and cartoon riding. I prefer 4k videos of real rides. I found one that follows the Main in Germany along the same way our Viking river trip went a year ago.

I bet you weren’t a fan of Wii bowling when it came out either....

My feet and hands were okay this morning. My knees were the weak link today. I had my bontrager thermal tights on but once my legs got cold it was game over. I’m tempted to try my leg warmers on top of the tights but movement would be restricted and I don’t want to stretch my leg warmers out.

My friend who organizes rides since the club shutdown has invited me to start with them today because pushy-in-a-hurry guy isn't invited. I'm honored to be welcomed back to a group I was a part of before cranky-ass came along.

I know it's not easy organizing rides sometimes. I did it for a while and there were two women who didn't want to ride with each other and then there was a couple who had broken up with hard feelings and definitely didn't want to see each other.
with club rides you just show up and deal with whoever is there but with the small rides the person who calls or e-mails everyone has to catch flak sometimes.

Tried Rouvy? I believe more in sync with your taste.

I did a half of a half century of fake miles. It was a meetup with friends and Zoom chat so it was fun. I ride shirtless, so needless to say I had zoom set up with audio only.

Be careful, there are creatures out there looking for cuddly little critters just like you.

You are correct. It has been a minute. I do come and go, not due to lack of interest but lack of time. ( I'm O.G. ! )
Merry Christmas and happy new year to you sir and to the rest if you fine people.. (yes,, I said it... you people)

But seriously. 2020 can not only eff off. .. it can eff all the way off. It can eff itself in ways I cant even conceptualize.

Correct. I have also had success with double tights: thin ones first, then thicker winter ones with windbreaker panels on the outside. Worked down to 10F no problems.

I tried Rouvy when it first came out and it was pretty buggy. I've gone back to try it and they tell me my free trial has expired which sucks since I only used it once. Anyway, Fulgaz and Rouvy appear to be very similar and Fulgaz has routes way tougher than I can handle as well as workouts. All of the major European climbs are on FulGaz like Ventoux and Alp de Huez.

Besides that, my wife and I share a yearly family membership on FulGaz. In fact, she's riding in Australia as I write.
