Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ha - interesting.

According to Intervals, I've bumped my FTP 4 times in the last 10 days. The spread among them is only 8w, but I'm encouraged that the bumps were all at flip-flopping interval durations: the first was set with 28min effort, then a 3min, then a 17min, then a 4min. I guess my power curve is less out-of-whack than it was - I had always skewed towards the short-term. Then again, maybe that's just the nature of riding on roads vs a trainer - it's tough to find a 20min stretch of road in my neck of the woods, so a power curve that peters out after 5min might be expected.

Had a nice ride yesterday. 6 of us, 50 miles with hills and a bit of wind, but not soul crushing wind. Also, about 90 degrees, which is fine but shouldn't be happening in February.
A friend came who hasn't done a group ride or much riding at all in the past year+. He thought about calling his wife to pick him up but persevered to the end. It was good to see him again.

It’s snowing, and I don’t have any charcoal. I’m going to roast it.

I have never eaten baba ganoush that agreed with me. I am suffering, as we speak, from some ratatouille I ate last evening. Perhaps I shouldn't enjoy eggplant as much as I think I do.

My brother told me to put then eggplant on the Weber (charcoal) after everything's done, while the coals are still going. One time I did it, but forgot to stab the eggplant a couple times to release the steam. So we're sitting there at the table, enjoying whatever it was I'd grilled when... *POOM!* the eggplant exploded, knocking the lid off the Weber. The Boys, who were still pretty young then, got quite a kick out of that.

Do not eat eggplant. Will only consume at a party with no other options because I'm starving.

I was thinking about riding down to check out the Aircooled club meetup today, but it looks like they've already wrapped things up #earlybirds
I wonder if they got a full ROYGBIV lineup going on.

Hey, who let that eBeetle in there???

Possibly more interesting than the intended result. Cut them in half the long way and score the cut side with a knife next time.

Yeah, I never think "eggplant" when I'm eating babaganoush. I can get some top notch babaganoush right up the road for $6, so I probably won't be making any anytime soon.

I think in terms of enjoyment, outside > trainer but I have to admit, one can get great results from a trainer.

As an older non-competitive rider, I prefer outdoors.

One of my routes on FulGaz is around part of Lake Como in Italy and a lime green Porsche 914 keeps passing me from both directions. I keep trying to get a pic for paotd.

40 years ago, if you had told me I could have an ergometer at home…with a massively multi-player video game built in, I would have plotzed!
