Comfortable design, and easy to control. Cantilever brakes, not caliper brakes for strong, fast stops

Triple front chainrings = a wide gearing range that will digest any hills, any terrain, even fully loaded w/gear
Rear gears are six beefy cogs, not the silly paper thin ones designed for a few races, and then skip and wear out

Meant to mention that the bike has been very lightly used.
This is the bike to ride across the US.

[h=2] Gitane French Midget Racer - $500 (Doylestown 18901)[/h]
This bike was custom built for my son when he was 7. It started as an early 1970's Gitane Juvenile model 2652, 3-speed "Midget" racer. It is now a 10-speed. The conversion is not trivial so this is the only one like it to be found anywhere. This is a solid, period correct and completely French bike, built with original, new and NOS parts.
The 22-inch chrome rims were re-laced to NOS Zeus high flange hubs with new stainless steel spokes and NOS Atom 5-speed (14-20) rear cluster. A new 40/46 French cottered crankset replaces the original and matching Huret Front and rear derailleurs and shifters were added. Pedals are original the Leyotard with French threads.
Brakes are the original Weinmann, but CLB youth drilled brake levers were added for a kids shorter reach and better looks. The NOREX tensioned leather saddle was NOS. It now has some minor scrapes, but is in great condition.
Tires ( Kenda 22 x 1-3/8" or 37-490 ), brake pads, drive chain, all cables and cable housings are all brand new. All bearings were replaced / serviced during the build-up and function flawlessly. There are paint scratches. mostly on the top tube where the original brake cable rubbed. I used a rubber donut on the replacement cable.
My son learned to skillfully ride a road bike on this bicycle. It is not a toy, but a scaled down adult machine. The bike has been dropped a few times, but not crashed. Minimal wear is consistent with use by a 60 pound rider.
All of the original, pre-conversion parts were kept and will go with the bicycle.
