look at the tire size stuffed under those Delta brakes, impressive.
a Cambio Corsa equipped bike, I am just not flexible enough to shift one. That gear really required planning to shift while ascending, there needs to be enough forward momentum while back pedaling to shift. A learned technique.

It requires too much effort to pull my phone out of my pocket but the dude at the top of Cypress insisted on taking pictures so here’s a shot of me and the 5th and last time that I do this ride with a 42/24 low gear. Very small Heroic group this year allowed me to hang with 5 others off the front for most of the way. Saw them last finishing their burritos.

The view from my lounge at the last available spot at the campground.

Wally’s crescent tightened up my headset and the descent shook it loose again.

42-24 is beast mode. Even I, a youngster (50+) went 36-26 and just about blew a gasket.

ETA- Exact same thing with my brother's SOMEC. Headset loose again after the Cypress descent. We actually rested for a second on the way back down. Imagine resting on a downhill.........such is Eroica!

Here are my Piedras Blancas route photos. Unfortunately the fog had rolled in and hid any views of the lighthouse. As others have, I had to get a photo of Carlos (from Bakerfield) and his Cambio Corsa equipped bike. He actually brought two Cambio Corsa bikes and rode the other on Saturday.

My 1969 Colnago Super, as close to the lighthouse as possible.

Kucharik still selling off stock… Wow. They have shut down the store quite a while ago now.
my first pair of cycling shorts were from them, 1973. Finding good cycling attire was a challenge.

Good eye, as usual. repechage. I brought the cork from a bottle of Bianchi wine as an homage to my first Eroica bike, a 1961 Bianchi Competizione that was significantly too small for me. (I snagged the cork from the first year's Eroica CA dinner). I brought the fork end for giggles and to celebrate the fact that the fork gave me fair warning that it was about to kill me.

As Sheldon Cooper once said, what's life without whimsy?

I had a loose headset too but it was at Cayucos So I got that fixed PDQ. Did you take a right too early on El Pomar dr heading back to Templeton? I looked at your strava and it looks like you had the same bonus detour into some private properties like I did. Your time was pretty impressive on the Heroic route.

repechage Stuffing the 28's under the Deltas was not my best idea....lots of chuffing and scrapes from road debris. 25's are back on that bike and the 28's are packed as backups for Gaiolle

We missed a left somewhere between Santa Rita and Kiler and did an extra little up up up Dow down down that we had to repeat in reverse to get back to the missed turn.

Do I spy with my little eye...

OG Aerolite pedals on the captain's cranks on that purple-&-blue tandem? How many of those are still being ridden?

And whoever it is with the Teledyne Titan and Teledyne wool jersey is a bad, bad, man. Best in Show, for me.

Someday, I will be there.

the limits of the geometry.
‘when I was young, I really wanted a bike that required short reach brakes.
‘now fortunate that most are ‘normal’ reach constructed.
in 1974 when I saw a set of piccolo reach Campagnolo brakes, just too cool. On a DeRosa out of Talbot’s, owner spent big dollars.
