Kicked down a hard one this morning:
48.42 mi w 3.5k elevation in 2.4 hrs, good for 19.9 mph on 215w AP/235w NP
Up next: eating while I try not to pass out at my desk

good avg speed for the elevation:distance ratio
if you make it past 1 without coffee or passing out you got this.
i still feel like im on the verge of cramping after racing sunday, id like to get in some base mileage but im not in the mood to deal with cramptown. my grip strength is almost back to normal so thats good
ive been having strange urges to ride my roadbike the past couple days, dunno what thats about.

I actually had a random and super intense cramp in my calf last night while sitting at my desk, presumably from racing in 102º heat on Sunday and getting a little dehydrated. I won though, so it was totally worth it. Still feels a little tender today.

ive had the lingering crampy feeling after intervals or other races, i think its more your body being pissed you pushed it so hard than anything else

i ride every ride i do these days (anywhere from 5-100 miles) in a pair of icebreaker merino boxers, quickdry "hiking" shorts or a pair of cut-off dickies and a t-shirt. i've never been happier and i haven't had a saddle sore in ages. IMO the chamois padding harbors bacteria, can move around and cause friction...i think padded shorts do more harm than good.

For me the trick is to use a ton of chamois cream during the ride, and also apply a thin layer after I shower when I get home. It really helps prevent them from popping up.

Yeah it's always the crazy extended anaerobic efforts that do it to me, never longer rides. This was after an omnium at Alpenrose three relatively short races spread across the afternoon, but my heartrate was off the charts almost the entire time, especially during the points race.

You could try having the pump chuck clinching one of the nylon needles that comes in ball inflating kits. Tucking it below one of the grips and releasing the stored air all the while covering the holes at the ends of the grips while pulling in a twisting motion.

re: taint sores
A&D has been the best thing for me so far, i use it as a chamois cream and like @cali_axela does i also add a smidge after a shower
if you do end up getting any A&D does a great job at getting rid of them in a couple of days, regardless if you use it before

I'm with Johnny, I do about 90% of my riding in just Adidas athletic boxer briefs and a pair of cut offs and I've never had any saddle sore issues.

Today the yo is now repaired and I ordered new bibs since someone on the ride the other night said they could see straight through mine. They're welcome, if you ask me.

Got a sweet Rockhopper frame rolling for my girlfriend as a touring bike/gravel bike.
Between this bike and my brother's bike, I'm not so sure I have enough parts for another complete build without buying new stuff. Gonna cannibalize one bike and SS it so I rebuild my old 67cm Fuji.

Looks like DX rear derailleur, too bad no DX thumbshifters...
Fresh Garbage
It had the DX thumbshifters but the indexing was crap and they weren't all the smooth in friction mode. I found these Exage combo brake/shifters at the co-op and they're damn near NOS. They will go on one of my bikes, I wanted the better functioning stuff on her bike.

I have Deore and Deore XT 7-speed thumb shifters on my two old rigid mtb's and they still work great. Is DX a lower line or were they just beat up ?

Actually can't remember if DX and Deore II coexisted, may have been different years.
EDIT:
Mombat only shows down to DX, so hard telling from that source alone, but DX may have replaced Deore II. They show Deore II as 2nd group in 1989, then DX as 2nd group for 90-91. Then in 92, XTR pushed DX down to third.
