I like squirrels.
I've never hit one, but have noticed that I have more close encounters with them when riding on trails or paths, vs roads. When I do see them by the roads I usually have much more time and space to avoid 'em. Tight trails with thick vegetation on the sides are the problem, not the cute innocent little critters!

Well, if you go to spinning class there might be some attractive buns in front of you, so maybe your idea has merit. I'm too antisocial (and cheap) to buy a gym membership, so it wouldn't work for me. I'll just deal with weather, traffic, and animals.

+2 on the tree rat comments. My neighbor feeds the little beasts, so they are everywhere in my neighborhood. I thin them out with my pellet *** when they start destroying too much of my yard, but haven't brought myself to where I can eat one yet (see tree rat comment).

They did a lot of damage to our house, chewing holes in the soffits, peak vents, etc to get in during the spring and fall.

A suggestion someone made in another BF squirrel thread years ago: to make sure you don't hit a squirrel in the road, aim for the squirrel. That's what they expect predators to do.
So stop confusing them. They're better at avoiding you than you are at avoiding them.

Deer would be at the top of my hate list. It just a matter of time of time before one jumps in front of my car or bike and does some serious damage to my wallet and maybe my health.

I think it's too much too. I got my Dad something once for feeding the squirrels that he and the squirrels love. It's an eye hook attached to one end of a spring. The other end of the spring has a cord attached to it, and you put an ear of corn on the eye hook so it's hanging off the ground. The squirrels bounce around on it while eating the corn, and it's pretty amusing to watch.

The rabbits were out in force today on the trail. They like to think that you are chasing them running in front of you and then without warning dash in front of your wheel. I just would like a wrist rocket for them. Not to be confused with a snot rocket..

most people don't get squirrels are more dangerous than deer. A buddy laughted at me for ringing my bike bell at them. But it works.

They are attracted to the high pitched whistling sound Ksyrium spokes make above 20 MPH. I had one attempt to jump through my back wheel. One bent spoke, a tire with no rubber left, slightly dented seat stay, and blood everywhere. (not mine!)

Saw a red one the other day, and it'd been ages since I last did (there must be some advantages in being unemployed and riding on weekday mornings). I took a wrong turn and the gravel road turned into a singletrack and then into nothing. I checked the map to see whatever the hell I'd done wrong when I heard a rustling noise. Thought it was a bird but no! Red squirrel. I watched it mind its own business for about fifteen seconds until it noticed me and b*ggered off real fast.
