Tim, I come from a background where hi viz has been mandatory for work for many years. If you don't toe the line and purchase your own hi viz work wear, you're given a truly dorky looking mesh vest to wear that proably wholesales for about two bucks. While my cycling is only casual/exercise, wearing hi viz is natural to me. In order, if nothing else, not to be run over by the peloton, or a baby buggy

I'm not taking any sides but if you've ever watched a fashion show you'd notice that style take a great deal of effort.
Unless you are pathological, its an insecurity we all share to some extent.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Eleven Gear Cycling. They have line of Hi-Viz jerseys. My observation is that the most Hi-Viz item one can wear is not a particular jersey but wearing Hi-Viz socks. The moving socks draw more attention than anything else (along with blinking lights). Wear your stylish jersey as you prefer and add Hi-Viz socks and you'll be seen.

Active lighting (blinkies) make a huge difference, in my experience. Daily commuting brought new awareness to the difference. Saved my life a few times/.

ElevenGear was mentioned, and pictured, way back in post #48 .
That you missed it raises questions about the efficacy of hi-viz, no?

I stand corrected.

In my defense, I always ride sober, but frequently peruse BF while enjoying a Guinness or three.

Red is a good color if you're not into hi viz dayglo, road hazard colors, which I get.
As I mentioned earlier, good quality active lighting adds a significant element to driver awareness of your presence. It's not just for night time, folks!!!!
Hi viz clothing helps, but depending on your environment, even bright clothing can mix with the background.
Here's an old PSA that has shown up here before, figured it might be good to post again. Obviously, in the context of the video (witholding specifics to not spoil it), hi viz colors would help too, but blinkies would have made it obvious. I think both, especially in an urban setting. I prefer active lighting + whatever I'm wearing in a rural setting.
Enjoy!
