NYC: Frame straightening?
Got a rag stuck in my rd which tore it off, bent the drop out, and dinged the rim - all under a half a mile! Needless to say...bad day
Suggestions as to where to get the drop out straightened? I did it a little to get home (was bent perpindicular to the ground) but it needs some serious help

This is a steel frame? Road or Mtn? A frame builder may want to replace the whole dropout and it might be expensive ($150?). Simply bending it back can leave you with alignment issues. If it's alu you're out of luck

I bent my derailleur hanger pretty bad once,
took it to Stuyvesant bikes (not there anymore) and the mechanic/owner bent it back
and aligned it on his table. he took me to the back and let me watch
the work he was doing.
it was the standard campy drop out of it's day.

Yup, it's steel. Nishiki Sport.

I should note that before bringing it to the LBS,
I called the framebuilder and he said bending back the derailleur hanger
should not be a problem and I could do it myself with a pair of vice grips.
I bent it back with the wheel and derailleur on. I took it to the shop to
make sure it was in alignment.

Yeah, I did a 'field bending'
I can get the wheel on but it doesn't look like it once did. Mangled is a good descriptor

Jeez Air, just buy a new frame already. Or check a frame builder. Coast is probably too busy, but maybe the BMW guys could do it.

Check out Chelsea Bikes. I had some frame work done last year. They had to work the dropout too along with some serious painting. Now, the bad news is, it took three months to get the frame back. But most of the delay was the painting. Still, I fear, they may be slow. But give them a try if you want. They really do do great work.

I've been told Recycle a Bicycle in Dumbo does decent quick & dirty work. Not so for the Manhattan shop.

Went down to Bay Ridge bikes, they had it straightened out in 10 mins - woot! Well worth the hour trip there and hour back. All's that's left is to get another derailer and reinstall the chain. Huge relief off my mind though I'm not sold that the rim's OK - will post pics later on in the mechanical forum to get some opinions.
Thanks all!
Thanks all!
