I don't see any blue on those bars, hombre. Tritone or bust.

Well, Angel (RIP), as blind as she was by then, agreed with you.

Angel died last year, 4 days short of her 17th birthday, and the bars are all red now if it makes you feel any better.
She rode almost as many miles on the bicycle as she did on the motorcycle.

My Frankenstein-spec Road Bike

This is what I ride when I want to shift gears.
It’s a Trek 1100 that my dad bought new in 1990 and rode for about a decade before passing it down to me. I rode it for a few years and then put it in storage when I took a hiatus from biking for a while. Brought it back out a couple years ago and started gradually replacing all the worn parts, and now I’ve upgraded almost everything on it. The frame and fork, stem and bar, and the front brake caliper are original. Pretty much everything else has been replaced or soon will be, some of it with new parts, and some used.
This bike has a lot of experience. My dad commuted on it almost daily and did some light touring on it. I don’t know how many miles he logged, but it’s certainly in the thousands. I’ve had some good adventures on it too, and put on quite a few miles. I’ve also learned a lot by working on it. I do all my own maintenance and repairs, and this was a good platform to practice on.
Best mods: ditching the crummy old Sakae triple crank for a brand new FSA compact double. The Cane Creek brake levers are also very nice.
The most recent upgrade (and most expensive) was the wheels. I finally wore out the original threaded freewheel cluster. The wheel was getting hard to keep true, and I think the hub was screwed up. So I jumped into the newfangled freehub/cassette system. There was nothing really wrong with the old front wheel, but I had to get a new one to match when I saw how beautiful the rear one is. Mavic Open Pro rims on Ultegra hubs. Super smooth click-adjustable cones. Thirty two spokes, because I don’t like being super careful with stuff, or having to repair/re-true wheels often.
I got an 11-28 tooth 10-speed cassette, which is a range plenty wide for the kind of riding I do. I’m still using the original downtube shifters (switched to friction mode), but I plan on getting some 10-speed indexed bar end levers. I just replaced both derailleurs earlier this summer. Ultegra front and 105 rear, both used, $15 each.
Other planned mods? I’m still searching for the perfect seat. I’ve had some good ones, but never one I love. I might try a Brooks. I got a killer deal on a Thomson seat post but just haven’t installed it yet.
I’m into it several hundred dollars now, less than what a lot of guys spend on one wheel. I think this one’s a keeper. I can *almost * keep up with my friends on their sub-16 lb. carbon bikes with 11 cogs, electronic shifting, tapered headsets, etc. The difference is that I don’t ever have to worry about a little scrape or ding totaling my frame. And I can ride all day in reasonable comfort. This is as close to a do-it-all road bike as I’ve ever found.

New tires for this one. Hutchinson Fusion 5 All Season 28c. Definitely a higher end tire than the Pasela PTs that were on there. Got a slow leak on my first ride -__-

Box showed up at work today with my name on it.

I have another set of bars and pedals on the way, and I'm gonna recable the bike with something other than the crappy stock jagwire stuff, so that short rd cable loop is going to be fixed. My first ever completely new bike!
