A female friend of mine is interested in picking up an Iro Mark V. We went to a LBS yesterday to get sized up for a Pista, but she changed her mind/it wasn't available. Regardless, they figured she would fit best on a 51. So, the Mark V's are sized 50 & 53. What size do you guys she should get?
Additionally, she's 5'5" w/ an inseam of 30.5".

I understand, that there are many more factors other than inseam and height that factor into correct bike sizing; I'm just trying to get another opinion/real-life experience.

The cheap answer is compare top tube sizes on the geometry page.

51 pista: = 525mm
50 Mark V: = 520mm
53 Mark V: = 540mm

I didn't really want to make a new thread, since I have an IRO sizing question, so I thought I'd just ressurect this one.

Anyway, I'm 5'11'' and I THINK I have about a 32" inseam. I quite evenly proportioned, and don't have longer legs, or a longer torso. A bike guy said my arms are a bit longer than average for my size.

Anyway, he pegged me for about a 56 or so, if I wanted a "proper fitted" road bike. I've heard that the IRO frames tend to run a bit small, and I'm wondering if a 59 Jamie Roy would be too big for me.

I don't know much about geometry, or any of that, so I can't really figure this out on my own. Looking at charts, I would fit on a 56-58 bike. So, since the IRO run small (if they actually do) could I use a 59 comfortably? I'm asking cause there's a used one for sale.

If you get a shorter stem. I am 6' and ride the 59. The reach is about all I can take, but if you get a short stem it will probably be ok (I think stock is 110)

Ah, okay. IRO has a 100mm stem, and I would guess there are shorter ones around.

Ideally, for you, would you rather have the 56? Or does the 59 work fine for you for daily use?

I'm 5'5" and normally ride a 50-51cm road frame. I have the IRO 50cm and it's perfectly sized. I use a 90mm -17 degree stem.

Hmm... I suppose it's somewhat probable that a 59cm would be a tad too big for me...

Let me be more clear. I am 1 inch taller than you, but have the same inseam. This leads me to beleive that I need a slightly longer top tube that you. The 59 with the 110 stem (and bullhorns) fits me perfectly. You would presumably, unless your arms were longer than mine, need a slightly shorter reach. This could be gotten with a 90mm stem. However, this is not exact science, just a my presumption.

The Mark V's has caught my eye of of lately since my bad weather commuter is a little too big. In the future I'd be looking to get a Mark V but the sizing issue really is bugging me.

Here's the breakdown:

*TT is perfect for my short torso
*ST is really what worries me with the amount of post that would exposed in relation to saddle to bar drop length
*Since Mark Vs have short head tube lengths that also makes it an issue in considering the saddle to drop length with my long inseam

*ST will be right what I need in having the correct amount of post exposed for my long legs and saddle to drop won't be an issue
*TT length may be doable but still is what worries me. As long as I run a 80 or 70mm stem (I would want to ride with bullhorns) I would think I may be able to get by fine
*the Cannondale had a 33.5 standover so it matches perfectly with this one

The Veloce has a 58.5 TT/57 ST and I run an 80mm stem w/bullhorns on it comfortably.
The Commuter has a 59 TT/62 ST with a 115 stem (it feels a bit too long due it being a french threaded stem and those are hard to find now)


So can anyone give any feedback/what you think? Anyone else who rides on one shaped like a T-Rex?

IRO's do run small. It's because of the low top tube or the small head tube. So you can't just use top tube length and be done with it. In their case stand over may mean the most (the old fashioned way of sizing a bike).

but keep in mind, they don't actually run small, they just run short (low). top tube length will be spot on.

How would long arms effect sizing?
height: 5'7" (67")
inseam: 33"
Arms shoulder to mid wrist: 26" about
