That's because they are amateurs and lack commitment. There should just be two individual grips. One mounted to each side of the front axle.

Primitive aerodynamics. They did a lot of weird stuff back in the day.

Look at where your hands end up with track drops. This gets you in the same, or lower position with theoretically less weight (no stem, less handlebar).

There is nothing primitive about aerodynamics.

Keep in mind that the Wright Brothers were bicycle builders by trade.

haha. I guess sitting is probably overrated too. Might as well have your hands balance on both of those grips and somehow propel yourself another way. Maybe like pedaling a unicycle but with your hands.

My stems are all slammed against the proper amount of spacers for each bike according to the comfort level that bike requires in my riding. I personally like a bike with some spacers that are colored matched to the bike or look funky. Have fun with the bike make it unique. If I was in really tip-top racing shape I might eschew many spacers but I ain't.

I will say this though any of those goofy extenders are ridiculous and the bike just doesn't fit right and you should find one that does or change the stem angle or something like that.

dropped the stem on my space pony down 20mm and went to a 10mm longer one and all my back issues disappeared 5mins into the ride. i also felt way more efficient. low and long is where it's at for me.

i used to look at peoples setups (especially commuter and "non-racer") and think to myself there's no way that much drop or length could be comfortable for a daily commuter. but the more i ride, the lower and more stretched out i want to be.

Bikes: officially too many now...

how low can we go?

we call this one the reacharound

I've seen a photo of a Takhion pursuit bike with track drops mounted over the fork. The rider's hands were basically at the front axle. Can't find it right now, but it was hilarious

Guess it depends if your issues are back or neck oriented. The lower you go, the more you need to tilt your neck. Back issues can sometimes be fixed with core strength. Neck stuff often comes with age and vertebrae degeneration. It's why older people always say "don't get old..."

My issues are lower back and hip on the right side. Starting pt tomorrow. Not sure if bike fit is an issue in this case. My sports massage therapist found 2 of my ribs that were out and fixed that as well as an si joint that was out.
