Chicago Century
The intention of this post is to get a read on the enthusiasm for an idea I have been thinking about for awhile. Is anyone interested in doing a Chicago Century? The idea is to have an organized ride that covers the city of Chicago; from the North to the South, from the Lake to the West. We’d do it on a Sunday morning late summer, have breaks for beer, sausage, whatever, make it as fun as possible. Plot out a course, pass out maps, distances. Make a flier promoting the ride. Ride at a pace that would keep the group together.
I don’t think I can do it alone. I’d need help with fliers, maps, routes, other things. I’d like to see a turnout of, what, say 20 riders?
Let me know what you think. Please post ideas and willingness to help and/or ride.

I am down for this Mayo - as per our discussion. I can assist with the flyer production and drinking of beer. The latter has rarely been a problem for me.
PM me for my email address.
NYC had one last week (or was it two weeks ago?) - and gave some really good advice. Thanks Big Apple.

With all of these people talking about coming into town I couldn't help but to wonder...
Does anyone know what's up with the CCC this year?

Very Good. Next step. Date. I'm going to just pick one. How about Sunday, August 14th. We'll meet at The Bean at 7:00AM.
Next Step:
Route. My initial plan was to ride the Lake up North to Evanston, perhaps further, then head west. At some point we turn South and go Lake Calumet then turn back North riding the Lake as much as possible.
I've got the South Side covered since I know it well, but I don't know anything Northwest. Further, I'd love to hear ideas or suggestions for things we need to see along the way. Also, if you've got a place that we could use as a water/bathroom stop, chime in too. We need a place to stop for lunch and a place to stop for beer.
Remember that old McDonalds ad about the hot side hot and the cold side cold? Looking at the map it seems the North Side should be as beautiful as possible, trees, birds, peace and quiet and the South Side as industrial and gritty as possible. We want everything on our sandwich.
Does anyone know where Mr. T lives? We could ride past his house, check out the trees he cut down.
Be creative people, let's own this and make it a blast. Make it an annual event on the second Sunday in August. PM me for cell phone number.
One week from today we need the route planned so we can get the flier made.
