Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: 1998 Kestrel Rubicon Comp, 1980's Nashbar Sport RX, 20?? Tommaso Augusta, 2016 Pure Fix

Picked up what I thought was a Pake Rum Runner ... it's a Tommaso Augusta

I just picked up a 2011 Pake Rum Runner .... * ahem * Tommaso Augusta .... for $150 listed on OfferUp. The frame is in good shape, the tires need to be inflated. I was surprised it was a bit heavier than my Nashbar Sport RX, not that it matters. I was looking for a fixed gear, didn't want to cannibalize my Nashbar since it's about ( 97% guessing ) all original.

Here is the list of components on the Pake, Tommaso.

Thompson stem Deda Elementi
H+sun rims (custom laced with pink spokes)
Halo Hubs (rear is a flip flop)
Rolls saddle
FSA seat post
Pake track cranks (pink)
Discontinued collectors SAGLIFE straps ( Pink )
Thompson racing handle bars Who knows what they are?
Gear is 34/17

I can't post photos yet since I'm still new to the forums, so I have to hit 10 posts before I can post pics, but I think all in all for $150 I got a pretty good deal.

I'm slowly selling the bikes I don't ride, stuff with gears and going to a more simple setup. I live in Florida so it's all flat and I have no need for my gears bikes anymore. I just recently sold my Kestrel Rubicon Comp which I never rode to fund this purchase and possibly another fixed gear bike in my area I have my eyes on. Once to ride as is and one to customize to my preferences. Once I get to 10 posts I'll attach some pics.

Congrats on the new bike! 👍🏾

It's easy to get 10 posts, then get those pics up.

How do you enjoy fixed gear versus geared cycling?

Thanks Senrab62! I really love it!

I'm learning to adjust to fixed gear riding. I'm out of shape so I went to single speed to force myself to adapt with the hopes of improving my cardio. I didn't see a need for anymore gears living in Florida where it's super flat. So one more bike to sell and I'll be back down to 2 bikes.

If the Thomson bits are in good shape you got a deal. Enjoy the heck out of it!

Finally I can post pics! I think I'll change to a flatbar and change out the wheelset too. I want a slightly wider wheelset for urban riding.

I copied the info from the ad, and pasted without updating. It's a Deda Elementi Stem ... meh but it'll work for the moment

Looks like a fun ride. Yes, I would change out the wheels if it were me. You can sell them and recoup some money to be used on upgraded parts.

I just noticed it also has bottle bosses on the seat tube. Did they do that in 2011? I thought they didn't.

So removed the decals that was on the bike .... turns out it's not a Pake. It's a Tommaso Augusta. They had Pake decals on the frame where they normally go on a Pake. Guess I got taken.

I'm not too upset, I just wanted it for the chromoly frame in my size, was going to tear it down and rebuild the bike to what I wanted anyway. For what I paid $150, I think the chromoly frame is worth it in my opinion. I'll talk to the LBS to see if they want any of the parts I take off as I replace them. If not Craigslist and Ebay they go.

*edit* I tried to edit the title of the thread ... couldn't figure it out.
