That gunnar is a crazy mix of super-nice frame with some really low-end components. Rocket ring? Suzue Jr.s? Seriously.

I was thinking about snapping up that frame... at $550, it was the first decent deal i've seen on ebay in a while, crap parts or not. My wife is going to throttle me from my recent wheels purchase tho...

Any entrepreneurs out there?

52cm Langster selling @ $500 on Chicago's CL: https://chicago.craigslist.org/bik/99170300.html

56cm Langster selling @ $560 (two days to go, 20 bids so far!) on eBay: https://cgi.ebay.com/56cm-Specialized...QQcmdZViewItem

Both bikes are in Chicago, funny enough. Langster retails for $550/$600 and the eBay bike is looking to hit near $700 if the bidding war continues.. 20 bids in the first 5 days of auction is nuts. If I were a business man I'd buy the 52cm and relist/cash in.

Think about it eddie. You seem like a reasonably intelligent person.

If that bike goes for ~$700 I will toss mine up there in a heartbeat. 120% return on investment.. 6 months of riding, put the money towards better bike. Sounds like a good deal to me.

The 56cm is mine. There are over 100 people watching it too. It's the sweet sweet electrical tape I guess.

Edit: Better yet, this is the Langster I scored at the Chicago Bike Show complete for $250. Bragging disguised as "fact sharing."

Bikes: Surly Steamroller, GT Pulse, Specialized S-Works E5

I dunno - people here respected my dibs on that GT, and I won the auction this past Wednesday. I think this thread actually works pretty well. At the very least, it's a cool way to see what's out there in places I wouldn't normally search (like SF Craigslist, etc.), or things I miss in my searches on eBay, et al.

eyefloater: I also got your message - I'll definitely be posting better pictures of the bike when it gets here. No modifications for a while though.

nice deal! it's got almost the same "$600" wheels as that njs nagasawa on SFCL. you paid close to that for a whole bike (and extras) with full DA. that nagasawa is nice though, but 'spensive.

58cm Fuji conversion candidate, VALite tubing. North of Manhattan, ready for pick-up. Still really cheap.

dura-ace 32 hole 7600 hubs are $300, the rims are 60 each, the bladed spokes are $150, gatorskins are $34 each. oh and 80 to build if you want. 20$ dura-ace cog. and tubes, 10$ $760... my bad.

My neighbor has one of these on his hybrid commuter bike. I think he might have mounted it the wrong way though.

I was being sarcastic. I guess I neet more rotfl smileys next time. Seriously though he needs to flagged. I miss the days when people like him were hung in a cage in the townsquare and all kids would throw jagged rocks at them.

If you've got the townsquare and the cage, I'll bring the jagged rocks.

I don't have any CL/eBay stuff to post..

but I do have a question: why the hell do people bother bidding before the 2 minute mark? I would understand if the bidder can't be at the computer when the auction ends, but what about these bid nerds who ride the auction way up from 5 or 6 days out? Shill bidding? Pure idiocy? Argh. Wait until the last 120 seconds and roll the dice. Keeps prices low.

Awesome! I'll have the town smith build a nice small cage. Union Square here in Sf should work well as the town square. Plenty of good pillars to hang the cage from. Maybe a rock basket on each corner?

I don't think that's necessarily true at all. Getting the price up high to begin with definitely deters people from rampant bidding at the last second. If something is cheap (but desirable), everyone and their mother will use the bid at the last second tactic. I've been trying to figure out an optimal bidding strategy with eBay for some time now, and I remain unconvinced that merely bidding at the last second is the best way to get an item at the lowest cost. It is the best way to win an item though (of course).
