Guess I could pick up a threaded EC30 fork from Nashbar for a cool benjamin.

I remember that some people around here (Don Walker?) have been looking for DA 10-pitch chain for a while?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't I then also need a threadless headset? It's hard to have beef with the Dura-Ace threaded headset...
Another question, does a threaded fork have threads the whole way up the steerer tube? I didn't think it did, but I don't have a bike here to check. (This is what happens when all the bikes you own are 1 1/8" threadless to begin with.)

I think threadless stems are for the most part ugly (just my opinion). chunks!

Yeah I saw one of those on Nashbar. All I can say for sure is that it's cheap. Doesn't seem like a bad stop-gap measure, but it's adding <weightweenie>more weight</weightweenie> and another opportunity for something to fail. In short, it doesn't really seem elegant.
The reason I ask this is that I was thinking I could get the steerer tube to come up out past the headset and then attach a threadless stem. But it seems like that wouldn't be possible for other reasons - please correct me if I'm wrong.
And as for the looks - hey, we can't all be perfect.
In any event, if push really comes to shove, I can just get a decent 1" threadless headset (Chris King or Ritchey WCS) and throw in a proper threadless fork. I'll see if my LBS has any 1" EC90s laying around. When I brought in my Steamroller, they claimed they had '04 EC90s for $150 (only *after* I told them I got mine off eBay for $170), but I'm assuming they were mostly/all 1 1/8".

They clash with my rampant techno-obsession.
I will of course try it with the quill stem, provided, of course, that I "win" the auction and get this piece in the first place. I was just scoping out my options with my previous questions...and I also had no experience with threaded steerers/headsets, but once again, BF dropped knowledge.

ha.. ok.. thats fair... but you do realize a rampant techno-obsession on the fixed gear forum is a bit of an oxymoron...
im not afraid of threadless headsets.. but i think its a shame to ditch a nice matching fork for that reason alone

If you've got a frame with a short headtube, you might be able to find a threaded fork designed for a 63cm frame and you might be left with enough steerer after cutting off the theards. Or not.
or just don't fear the quill stem.
maybe a nice open faced quill would change your mind?

No way man, fixies are great for it. Just because they are simple doesn't mean that you can't make one technologically advanced.
What's nice about them (if you're a wackjob like myself) is that you can build (or buy) a fixie that hits/breaks the UCI weight limit for a fraction of the cost of a road bike that does the same. And then think of all the cool aero frames and components that come out of velo racing. I think that fixies are actually pretty "techy", at least on the track side of things, which is what happens when you push on technology to get you that 0.001 second advantage.
As an aside, the fork on that GT doesn't really strike me as more or less matching than a nice carbon fork. It's black and aluminum, yes, but to me that's about all it has going for it in the match department. Then again, I think my EC90 fork matches my Steamroller quite well.
Now, just imagine that Pulse with an EC90 Aero fork. Sick. It might even make up for my lack of skills when I take it to the ghettodrome. Just kidding.
Anyway, I'm putting a stop to this discussion. Back to hardcore eBaying...

a most interesting collection from a trusted source
nice stuff too
especially the 151BCD line up - extra stiff drivetrain maximizes pedal stroke efficiency
if "old school" means putting power down on the ground - then I'm old school
