You know, I was really into the SB for a long time, but after paying $15 for a set of bearings and then having to go into the shop to get them swapped for $20, I'm not so sure. The old ones were completely corroded in place, so even if I'd had one of those cheap bearing pullers, I'm not sure I could have made it go on my own. It took a damn lot of work for the fine folks at Community Bicycle to get them suckers out.

A few bucks for a set of loose balls sounds a lot more appealing even if it's a little more work to clean, pack, and adjust the cones.

Suzue no more?

When I stopped in at the LBS yesterday, I was told that Suzue will be, or already has stopped production on hubs. Apparently the word was passed along from QBP, who has not been able to restock the hubs. Anybody else heard anything about this?

Does this mean we'll have to opt for cheaper beer to compensate for more expensive fixed gear products?

I love it when possibly useful threads become cheap beer discussions in two posts...

they make low end quality hubs, those are the ones you are talking about. The NJS model and sealed ones are not trash.

Perhaps their lower-end models are trash, but not the ProMax. Suzue ProMax hubs are some of the best on the market, in my opinion; I've never heard anything bad about them and my pair have been running strong---threads intact---for the past two years.
