dealing with not riding.

This sucks. I'm probably out of commission for 4-6 weeks after maiming my hand getting doored on Friday... for those that have had long times off the bike... how do you deal? Fortunately it's the middle of the winter, but i've been commuting anyway, so it really sucks.

Ugh, depressing.

we should start a support group. I've been off the bike for a month and
I still have another to go. And I hate people telling me that I should be
glad since it is so nasty out. forget that. winter biking rules.

tip: put a sheet over your bike otherwise you'll get caught staring &,
since you've got a 3rensho, drooling.

stay strong,
jeff

ask stickerguy - he just had his arm broken. But he is one for the bike - I guess he has already jumped back on. Hmmm...double break, less than 6 weeks...stickerguy, please do not let your arm become malformed. Unless it helps your boomerang skills. Or belgian beer tippin' skills...

edit: jeff, you beat me to this ONLY because I needed more coffee. See ya!

Guess I need to join the club. I've been off for 4, almost 5! weeks with another couple to go after a surgery. It really sucks.

Get better.

What kind of cyclist are you!?!?

What's the one thing you hear every year at the TdF?
Complaining! I'm a big believer in cycling as a catalyst
for *****ing & moaning. "oh that hill was so steep" or
"that headwind was brutal" and riding fixed adds that
extra layer of how much suffering we can take.

If I wanted to overcome difficulties with aplomb I'd
pick up a different sport like mountaineering or
chess.

i've ridden once in the last month due to chronic knee pain. i'm getting back on track, but slowly. there are lots of people who would probably ride through the pain, but climbing the hills here with a fiery feeling in my knee upon every revolution makes biking not fun. i'm taking it slow and trying not to get too out of shape.

I have been eating lots of cookies and milk to deal with not riding. It also helps bone heal faster.

i definitely tend to think that the only way to deal with not riding is to get totally obliterated every day that you don't ride.

yeah...right now, all of my bikes have problems (2 messed up wheels, one flat for the 4th time in 3 weeks. i'm not even fixing it till i can get new tires), and i have no money to get them fixed up. by the time i do, i will be one grumpy mother****er. being off the bike for any amount of time always makes me unhappy.

i hear you...internet, music, eating a lot of crap, um...man. it really gets boring to not ride sometimes.

Bikes: Various by application

Hey well, at least we can all be depressed together on an interweb forum, right? Sorry folk can't ride 4 awhile. I'm kinda bummed right now too, just got off the phone with a buddy who is at the Solstice race in Houston, just ended a few minutes ago I guess. I wanted to go but no dinero sez I'm at home. Now they're all party and skids and I'm at home. (it ain't all bad, I got a glass of red and my wife whipped up some chile relléno ready in a few)

But on topic, I was off for 6 months....didalottawalking. Good time to spend building up to perfection a bike you can't ride yet. 6 months is anyway.

Go out and run. That's how I've been coping with working doubles and nasty weather. I'm an idiot sometimes, but I'm not dumb enough to go out riding at 9 PM with a marginal lighting system and with snow and ice on the road. However, I'll throw on some of my old running shoes and hit the streets for about 45-60 minutes, just to keep the fitness up and the blood flowing.

Just avoid the sidewalks, I guess.

okay...i'll be an honest drunk. i just got back to riding after a six week hiatus due to injury and it suuuuucked. i thought about it every day. so i took up smoking and a bottle of vodka near my desk...

i'm back riding again and the vodka is there, but far less smoking.

everyone deals differently.

I bought the 1st season of House on dvd, love that show.

We just got 4 inches of snow here in Wichita so i'm only riding to and from work and to and from the store at the moment. I did learn i cant stay up in 4 inch snow very well kept trying to go sideways. Was no prob on hardpack.

i went 3 months without riding....but i was backpacking and the simple bliss of walking with everything you need on your back made even my bike seem like an overly complicated luxury.

so I asked my doc: "what's the worst thing that could happen?:

jeff's doctor: "well if you fell then the bones could break and instead
of just a simple fracture the bones would rip out at least some of the
13 screws I put in your bones. Which would mean not riding for
years since we'd have to put all the little shards back together"

so yeah Tyler Hamilton I think this breader is going to listen
to the good man who went to Med school and stuff.

Bikes: '85 Full Cycle Cycle.

You can still practice unclipped no-handed and no-footed trackstands in the living room fairly safely.
