Bikes: heh, like that info would fit here...

I'm a brooks-riding vegan, but if you don't want to go down that slippery slope Terry makes a nice cr-mo railed Fly that's nice. I've got it one one bike (and the leather-titanium one on another.) Both are equally comfortable. Neither are quite as nice as the brooks, though.

just to throw a monkey wrench into the thread, bioplastics are available. i doubt if any bicycle company is using bioplastics for anything. I believe most come from soy and corn, its a renewable plastic and biodegradable.

Sure, but then you're supporting the corn industry. American corn subsidies contribute to third-world poverty by enabling US corn growers to dump corn on the world market at the lowest price going, so no-one else can compete.

Just sayin', there's hardly any product out there which is without *some* ethical concern, and you don't even have to look very hard to find it. It's all tainted.

i'm curious to see how many people ditched all their leathergoods when becoming vegan. i know people who would throw out everything using animal products when they went - what's the point of that? true you don't want to consume animal by products, but you've already been using them.

i guess that goes along with whoever was posting about the brooks saddle.

btw... what are some good vegan cook books? vegans i know always have the best food ever.

i became vegan about 9 years ago, when i was 18. i was pretty militant at the time, and so, yes, i gave away my leather shoes and belts. not much else that i owned wasn't vegan. however, i've learned and changed a lot since '97 and disagree with much of what i said and did then. hey, live and learn.

i can definitely recommend some cookbooks!

vegan planet by robin robertson
the candle cafe cookbook
the garden of vegan by sarah kramer and tanya barnard
the volumptuous vegan by myra kornfeld

are my favs.

that is not a vegan saddle. the person who started this thread is looking for affordable synthetic saddles.

Is that anything like a Catholic who only very occassionally breaks the first commandment?

I'm a vegetarian who only eats red meat. None of that fish or fowl for me.

i second the voluptuous vegan (habitus' recommendation), and i'll add:
150 vegan favorites, jay solomon
simply vegan, debra wasserman

these two books have a lot of good ideas for "staple" meals -- mid-week, i-don't-feel-like-cooking-for-three-hours sort of meals.

habitus -- '97 was a good year to go vegan; that's when i did too.

Got given the bike, Brooks came with it - wasn't going to bin it - so kinda go along with the 2nd hand thing. Plus you can get the 'Stanley' knife out and turn an old B17 into a .

That failing Ambrosio Lite. Dunno where you'd get it over there...

if you eat meat, you are not a vegan. vegans do not use or consume animal derived products.

why not? when i'm not eatin' meat, i closely adhere to the vegan diet. i only eat meat every now and again--probably about twice a month. the rest of the time, vegan all the way. i just don't make a big thing of it as folks don't wanna hear it. keep it on the dee-ell, nawm sayin'??

but dude, i'm vegan cause i say i am.
