I'm interested in this ride too. I’m not going to vote since it really doesn't make a difference to me which of the two weekends we do this on. I’ll be missing a day of work either way.
I'll bring my patch kit...oh **** it, I’ll even bring an extra inner tube!

Bring extra tubes... we went through a few on our trip from philly. I even brought an extra folding gatorskin tire just in case something REALLY bad happened. A lot of the areas we went through didnt have a bike shop for miles and miles. You can read about it on https://bangboston.blogspot.com/ when Mattgarfield busted a spoke, we were lucky to have a really nice lady stop, load up our bikes in her truck and drive us the 10 miles (in the opposite direction) to the nearest bike shop. We would have blown a whole day trying to walk there, or ride a bike whos wheel was getting more and more wobbly every mile. So yeah, my point is that you will want to bring tools and tubes... we even considered bringing a few extra spokes... but didnt due to the fact that we would need to bring a bunch of different sizes and it didnt seem worth it.

Newport is a little shorter and just a little more scenic than Point Judith, a little less city and more beaches, But either one is a great ride. Coming from Newport you will go up 14.2 miles of the east bay bike path on the way to Providence, much of it is on the water. evanyc's idea about 3 days is right. You need to add in ferry time and waiting and some stops along the way.
I have taken all those ferries with a bike, it's great. I took one from New London to Orient point, and rode LI from there ,it's great. Your trip is going to be awesome.
If you take the Newport route you will be going past three bike shops on the way. But they are closed on Sunday. But you will be going right by me too. Maybe I can give evan my cell phone number when you start up towards Providence, I have some tools and tubes etc, and a car. The end of March is when I really start putting on the miles up here. That's pretty good timing.
For a slide show of some photos I took of the East Bay Bike Path this fall go here and wait for the slide show to start.

i'm pretty much game most nights (except tommorow cause i'm restin the knees) and wednesday is supposed to rain.
Next week would be cool by me as well. I picked up another non BF person for the ride, and he was talkin to his mechanic who had apparently already heard about this ride as well.
