Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: Custom Holland Ti road bike, Custom track bike I traded a painting for.

I just read re-read books i'm teaching. Joy Luck Club and To Kill a Mockingbird. I don't like JLC very much, but TKAM is decent. Definitely not books I would choose.

I'm completely absorbed in this lately:

For anyone who's interested in science but never pursued it academically due to a false notion that they were "bad at math" when they were younger (*points at self*) it's an absolutely great read. I know you're out there, other person who searches Bittorrent sites for "BBC Horizon" ... this book is for you.

i love trivia, it's actually helped me on here a couple of times.

i like tom robbins

a little dry, but eye-opening.

there's another one i couldn't find an image for called "humanity's descent" which is about ecology, according to the book cover. i'm only 3 pages in and i'm already turned off by it. in school, did anyone else ever peer-review other students' papers and think "hey, this person isn't smart, but they're trying so hard to sound smart that they look even worse now?" the book is like that so far.

I knew I had to purchase the British version when I saw the cover of Reefer Madness, as I knew it wouldn't fly in the US

But on my trip to and from visiting my sister and nephews in Florida, I am reading Radio On by Sarah Vowell. Little old, but I like her writing and she's adorable to boot.

Also an easy read, but over 500 pages is Naomi Klein's great, new book, The Shock Doctrine.

I really liked Ham on Rye by Bukowski. He wrote some really really good stuff. You should check out John Fante if you dig bukowski, ask the dust is an amazing book.
