Fixed Gear 102

So...
Puma is working on the next booklet in their series, Fixed Gear 102, and they've called on me to write the chapter on running red lights in traffic.

So I thought I throw this one out to you guys, and see if you had anything to add.

Tips, tricks, anecdotes?

Puma should design its own version of the Flair* especially for radical fixed ridin' doods. I hear all the messengers wear em'. Maybe 102 could come free with purchase.

for those who ride without a brake, you should never
underestimate the technique of, (...damnit this doesn't
work in english) well, in german you would say "ausweichen",
which means to dodge ...sort of. basically, when you run
a red light and it turns out traffic is coming, you just turn
in with the traffic, or against it (which ever makes more
sense at the time).

i used that technique to avoid being flattened by an nypd officer running a red light at about 60 mph on flatbush the other night. i was on my way home from work, had the green, looked to my left as i was entering the intersection and had to make a quick 90 degree turn to the left to avoid the man in blue. no sirens, lights...he didn't even turn his head.

When walking your track bike to the bar, make sure you look left and right before crossing the street against a red light, keeping one hand on the brake lever at all times in case a taxi or something comes speeding around the corner (keep the other hand free to wave at people you know and/or fix your hair).

another good trick is to learn how to
fly across the hoods of cars, then roll
when you land ...its all about the rolling.

What's it gonna be about? A warning not to run reds? It must be, really, otherwise Puma will have all sorts of lawsuits to handle.

Corporate liability? You think they'll like it when Hipster Harry blows a light and gets a SUVie smack-down and sues 'em for encouraging that sort of behavior. Save the editors the trouble and just write:
"politely dismount your bicycle. Walk to the crosswalk. Press the button. Walk across street when the approprite signal is given"

I'm trying to figure out if it really would be a bad thing if the people who read this get creamed running a red.

You could always change the chapter from running reds into learning to trackstand and when to practice.

a: fyi puma's been proactive in track cycling since before most of y'all's registration dates. their endorsement of track cycling comes backed with money where their mouth is. they paid to have kissena fixed, they sponsored the messenger races there, and no-one's forcing you to wear their shoes or read their guide (and please tell me where there's anything wrong in fg 101).

b: this is obviously a spoof.

c: stop fücking hating you ******bags

d: the red light thing = frogger. if you don't know, now you know

shut up eddie, you just want them to put out another one so you can sell it on ebay to unsuspecting youngsters...

Fake or not, if running lights is something that can be taught by reading a pamphlet, then I sure wasted a lot of time riding and getting used to traffic.

okay, so i don't usually take part in these silly message board arguments, but here's my two cents about the above in a clear, calm, non-agressive internet voice:
yes, puma was probably sponsoring stuff before my registration date. fantastic. but here's the difference, and this is what matters here: i ride because i love to ride. i don't care how many indie-street-cred-scene points i can get by riding through downtown boston or allston on my fixie. puma doesn't love to spit out cash because they love to ride. they spend money because they anticipate a greater return than their investment. it's about money and money doesn't give a **** whether or not kissena crumbles to dust after it stops being popular to ride a fixie.
