I have at least 6 zip ties holding it on there. Just in case.

I love zip ties, for a while they were used to hold my front fender on

yeah, but i use every position on there (my wrists thank me for switching it up now and then), so i like completely wrapped bars.

When my bars are bare its due to laziness. When they're wrapped, it's full-on and due to the season.
Bare bars are flatout cold!

I wear gloves.

The best part about wearing gloves is the awkward sun tan that I get through the breather holes and the larger hole below the main velcro strap.

Looks funky !!!!!!!!

LOL! there's a bear bar in SF, the Eagle Tavern that puts on punk shows on a regular basis. cool place. cheap beer, a barrel of free peanuts, an outside patio with heaters.....but only one big pee trough in the men's room.

All three of my bikes have double wrapped bars (cloth over cork). I love it. It's cushier than cloth alone, grippier than cork by itself, and looks cool when it wears a little.

I have no desire to try the no tape thing. My hands and wrists are messed up enough as it is, and bare metal would suck in the rain.

nice thread! heres my .02; tape where its needed its safer and keeps you from slippin when theyre wet and wrapped bars ad cushion and arent as cold- i dont know about you but i dont like the idea of slipping on my bars while im out of the saddle- that and the idea of slammng my chest into the stem freaks me out-i rock cloth tape on top and the beginning of the shoulders- thats where i need it and thats where it goes- i eat these fashion kids white belts and black hair dye included- aesthetics @ the cost of safety is careless-i do like the look and feel of bare bars and am careful to keep my drops as scratch free as possible- the cork idea is awesome. thx!

Montreal's not one of these cities where there's a ton of fixed/ss bikes anyway (the couriers are catching up on hipness points though, but they're mostly on ss's), but they ones that do, there's no such thing as njs chic. You see a bike with no bar wrap, it means it fell off, and the rider doesn't ride enough to know the difference anyway. Seems to be the same in non-west Philly. Winobikes.

All these bikes with naked bars, I'm picturing divets of flesh plugging the holes where the riders banged up against them. And lots of slipping hands.

i hate to urinate in troughs. when i was a little kid, the urinals at fenway park were all trough style. i would always brave the stench and use one of the clogged toilets, lest I experience weiners in imax.

They do look good but I can't imagine you get a good grip. Also, I like to avoid chrome as it is so poisonous to the environment. The rubbery grip tape (two-tone, sewn together) is so great. It feels like tennis racket tape, a little pricey but you have a positive connection.

I keep using innertube, if you take your time and cut it right, wrap it right, you get nice looking, distinctive and really comfortable grip, also protects your top tube in the city.

BTW, the naked bar thing, don't do it with pentagonal Cinelli bars. Ow, Ow, Ow!

Funny story...

I used to do research for nature shows, we did one on bears in the Russia. I did a lot of research on "russian bears", "bears"+"russia" etc.

After learning so very much about Bob and his friend Andre, Steve and his friend Ivan I had to give up and go to the zoo.

The cork idea,
A friend of mine down here uses the corks off of his favorite vintage so he can pull them out for reference. He also uses them on his bullhorns, a situation that would raise the bare bars problem from being your problem to everyone elses.

I saw a naked bar-flesh core injury once and don't need to see it again.
The blood looks like cherry syrup.

Fordfaster, Let me add my voice to the chorus of "Cools" for your flashlight solution.
In short, "Cool"!
