Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Remeber, always wear a helmet when descending an inflatable water slide.

Red Bull would have something to do with that.

Looks like fun to me! I haven't done most of those things since I was tiny. It would be a blast to ride my bike through a giant gauntlet of bubbles! I liked the shot of the dad pushing his daughter's bike while they both wore matching gear. Alleycats need some of that good old fashioned family goodness.

Bikes: trek 330 (ss), schwinn caliente, schwinn cruiser, a plethora of bike parts that could probably make another bike

I'm not gonna pretend I'm as cool as you people.
It looked like fun to me. Haha but then again I AM a big dork.
Damn, now it's official.

Heh who wants to ride bikes through bubbles with me?!?

all i said was "this event for 'normal people' is analogous to an alleycat for fg/ss/alt-culture people"
i didn't say "alleycats were totally here first, copy-cats". i can see why you'd think that though.

because you're stupid, thats why.

it looks sort of like fun. i mean, i don't know how much fun most of us would have kicking it with upper middle class suburban spandex-clad dentist and lawyer cyclist group, but the events look like fun.

not to discriminate, but cripes, i know i'd have very little to talk about with a comparatively rich 45-year old dude on a 5000 dollar 27-speed bike.

Damn - didn't see the video before I posted the link, just the race descriptions. It does look like it could be fun, theough a little too wholesome for my tastes. But at least they had beer

Ease up. All I'm saying is that there is no 'normal people'. You (allegedly) ride a bike. Get over it.

you know, i retract what i said about 5000 dollar 27 speed bikes, i was just getting carried away. suburban and upper middle class, i could have left it at that. wholesome, family oriented bike racing. meh. i could, however, deal with an alelycat where one of the checkpoints was, you know...pin the tail on the donkey or one of those "carry the egg in the spoon" races. with shots of liquor as penalties/prizes.

the only people who can be cool and family-ish at the same time are hippies. and not the stupid ones. the ones who grow pot and raise goats and get back problems and ride rivendells.

When I play in bubbles, I take my time. No need to race.
