Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I'll admit it... I fell asleep at 10:30 or something.

Can we get an old people's ride together? We can ride around a bit at about 4:00 PM, then stop at a diner for the early bird special. Maybe we can get some apple sauce even. Just let me know 'cause I'll need to pick up my Bengay beforehand.

Or how about an old people who work late ride? We could meet at like 7 and ride for 1/2 hour. Then maybe I would be able to do it.

Yeah, I would actually need to meet at something like 7:00 because of work. The 4:00 business was just to emphasize how lame I am.

A few reflections on today's midnight (well, 11:00pm) Maoz ride:
  • There were a few fewer people than last week, but we still had about eight;
  • We might want to choose a new meeting place because there was a parked train blocking the walkway between 25th and Locust and the trail; and
  • I and a couple other people stuck around and had a chat with the Maoz guys who recommended that we come on another day of the week. Apparently, Monday is the one night of the week when they don't make fresh pita dough.

also, I heard they were shutting down that entrance to the trail because of the train tracks, so you would have to use those stairs on Walnut, or the ramp on Chestnut. Anyone hear about that?

I couldnt make it last night either... but I have climbed over a stpped train there before. It seemed sketch at the time, but trains start moving sooo sloooowww... as long as youre not under the friggin wheels you should be fine.

I don't fux with those trains. Sometimes its parked such that you can walk around it, otherwise i ride over to the chestnut ramp. But let me just say that i hate CSX or whoever runs that ****. They have miles of track that wouldn't stop people from using that crossing. They could park the trains in any number of ways that share uses with people trying to access the trail. But no, instead they have to be absolute *******s. There's no excusing it.

oh and +1 on every group ride that starts late at night being too late for me. Yeup, even 10pm

it's usually slow but sometimes they jerk fast, and people get do get hurt. I know people who spend time in train yards and won't climb over trains unless they have to. the tracks there are a little more predictable than s in a yard, but i wouldn't trust it.

I don't think they're planning on closing it (and I hope not 'cause I use it pretty much every day on my way to work), but it's future is somewhat uncertain. Check Free the River Park.

It was good to meet a few of you last night. Switching to Wednesday works for me about the same as Monday does, but that's fine. Hopefully I'll come out next week either way.

"WHEREAS, CSX has steadfastly refused to adequately repair dangerous conditions on its 25th Street bridge, where chunks of concrete have dropped off many of the support columns and sections of the bridge itself. CSX pledged to repair damaged viaducts one section at a time, a rate that would stretch out repairs over 266 years."

nice...

yeah, I hope they don't put up a wall there, that's kind of ridiculous.
