Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Track bike riding messengers didn't start out emulating track racers. sorry.. For modern day - 1980s it was easier to ride as most in the ghetto rode them. also most people from the islands was riding them also in NYC.

Yes were racers also.

Just as stated before just go ride. I am going to ride mine.

By the way I am building a single speed!

saw him too the other day. I was riding up walnut toward the bridge and 2 guys turn from 22nd onto walnut in front of me and coast toward 23rd st. The thing was, one guy clearly had no brake levers so i'm like WTF? well to slow at the red light, dude puts his foot on the ground to slow himself but the light turned green and he got to keep going. Now since i negotiate traffic a bit worse than my buddy, i passed them to catch up with him. GUess they thought i was racing them or something because i get to my friend at the 76 turnoff and slow back to normal pace then the brakeless ss dude comes flying past us chugging hard as he can. The second he passes us, he coasts and puts his foot on the ground presumably to come undercontrol to go down the other side of the hill timing that light right. took him literally like 250 ft of dragging his foot to slow down.

whatever, for real thought whats the difference between being an idiot and being hardcore? If it wasn't stupid, it wouldnt be hardcore.

I'm getting a better understand of the fixation with "fixed" reading this thread. ...boys that were beaten by their fathers ...dominated by their mothers.

That explains the hate part of this.

Keep this rolling boys. I need more information

This thread reminds me of a bunch of Star Wars fanboy dorks sitting up all night in their mom's basement eating cheetos and getting into slap-fights over whether Yoda could kick Mace Windu's ass. I ride the freewheel side of my flip-flop hub quite frequently on one of my bikes. If one of you girl-pants wearing dumbasses ever comes up to me on the road and acts all hard-up because I'm not riding the fixed side, I will laugh so hard in your face that I'll probably vomit on your Chrome Metro bag. I actually hope this happens someday, I would thoroughly enjoy making fun of you.

There are tons of "brakeless" coaster brake conversions in Seattle. At least the kids these days* are riding bikes.

I faked it once ... afterwards I felt cheap, and dirty and couldn't stop wishing the yiz would wear off so the whiskey would kick in and I could sleep.
