front brake for undrilled fork?

They are pretty fugly actually. You are probably better off just getting a track fork with 38mm rake that is drilled for a brake. They are around and cost less than that junk. Unless you really are just using the brake for short trips, say to the track and back, I'd say get a drilled fork.

i would only have a front brake on when doing long trips, centuries or more outta the city, which is a small part of my riding. i'd rather go with an undrilled fork (being custom built) since 90% of the time it wouldn't have a brake on it and drilled forks with no brakes look inelegant to me.

I'd bet you could buy a 2nd drilled fork for cheaper than one of those clamp-on brakes cost.
