yeah, that teapot is awesome. haha somehow i've ended up with many friends who do ceramics so i've gotten pretty into it. one of them is actually from colorado springs too! she lives in louisiana now. you know a girl named tina from up that way?

also, you get the record?

pitboss 06-21-06 11:56 AM

isotopedopearope - that handle looks to be Asian-inspired. Nicely done. The glaze/finish lends to an overall autumnal feel. Whether or not that was your goal, it was what it achieved.

isn't an upside down flag a sign of distress? so is vistordesign suggesting anarchy is in distress and we should burn that idea? thus, anarchy needs help? interesting idea, because it sort of does.

here's a teapot i recently made that i'm pleased with:

that teapot is gorgeous.

and yes. anarchy, patriotism, nationalism and State are all in confused states of distress.

evan, shishi, etc.,
i only had 8 jerseys made, so... no. they won't really be available. i'm trading them with some people for stuff that they've made/designed/built.

evan,
i did indeed get the records. thanks so much. i like the bullets*in record, but it didn't kick me in the face. i do like that reds album though!

i actually at least might know who your friend is... friends of friends sort of thing. i doubt she knows who i am. i think she's a bit older than me, i'm 29, and i think she used to work at the place here called van briggle. also, i think she used to work at this sculpture manufacturing place called terrance patterson that i later worked at as well... which is how i got to know of her.

josh,
japanese pottery is my main influence. i really am into their idea of wabi sabi... the beauty of imperfection. though this teapot is very round and straight, i enjoy making more "loose" forms. i have another shot at home of a tea bowl of mine with the same glaze that is very wabi-sabi. i don't have many shots of my pottery. i give it away or sell it too quickly.

that glaze is also a japanese style of glaze called a shino, though this recipe i made is more americanized, than the traditional japanese pure feldspar with little ash used for flux. shino is very very very old glaze. 1500's or probably even older... i think it might be one of the first glazes, and not just a salt or ash fired. but i'm just speculating. i need to learn a lot more. shino's also tend to crawl and break up or bubble... i love very earthy looking glazes. this glaze gets even more dynamic on other clay bodies, but still reacts greatly to porcelin. the heavy reduction firing i did (meaning i starved the burners of oxygen and heavily restricted the exhaust) also lends itself to more of this palette of color...

hope i didn't dork out too much.

dorking out? not at all - this is an art thread!

I grew up around ceramic and pottery. My mom had a Scut kiln in the garage.

i love process. that to me is art, not the artwork, which to me is just the end result of process. the process of creation is much more enjoyable to me than the result. i love understanding how and why things work.

i love my job. my dad and i run a tool and die shop (a machine shop), where we make the forging dies (molds sort of) for craftsman and rigid tools. we actually make the dies for park's adjustable wrench. i love being involved in the processes to make the dies.

i get techincal drawings, build the parts in cad, program how the cnc's will cut them out, then run the cnc's to cut everything out. i love thinking about how i make stuff that makes stuff that makes stuff. then i think about everyone involved in making what we use... cnc's, cutting inserts, the steel itself, etc. and then everything involved in making those things...

i attached a screenshot of some 6'' diagonal cutters i've been working on.

props to all who have posted. while most of my photographic and sculptural work is documented, it is usually in 35 mm format, and i'm too lazy to scan them to post a few here. i do, however, own a small gallery/artspace that functions as an artpiece. it has walls that are on casters, allowing the space to be redefined as the artist(s) see fit, and as such, allows the gallery space to exist less as a container of space and more as an conceptually defined environment/event. it is a multi-use venue, with a gallery in front, and an artspace/studio in back, which functions much like the bike kitchen, except i help people make visual art instead of bikes.

previous and future posters, feel free to submit a proposal for a show at the space... i'm booked through mid-late spring '07, but i'm lookin for summer shows.
http://bivouacartspace.org

to sweeten the deal the city finally broke ground on a new bmx course, as well as velodrome which should be ready by next summer

goathedz represent!!!

My clown bike loves its upside down burning flag decals, and I only endorse that which is in the best of taste.

i think here but i hadn't noticed their insane setup fees when i had thought that. but their prices for small runs are pretty ballpark--about 48 bucks a jersey. i'm not sure where they get off with the gnarly setup fees though. i'm making some other calls to US manufacturers now.

film from 2001 that's making it onto a DVD of stuff i've made which a record label is putting out. it was made back when making your computer speak was still an untapped novelty. now... not so much... it's part of a series of films i've been working on involving the shedding of contrast and conversational poetry.

i'll mp4 other stuff after i get done rendering.
